I have seen that survival seed vault on Amazon. From what I remember it had mixed reviews. Some people had trouble getting their seed to start when they actually planted it. Still worth getting though. 2 is 1 and all.

I picked up a sealed #10 can of Heirloom seeds from Emergency Essentials last week when I needed a few more bucks in my cart to qualify for free shipping. I put the can up. It's always good to have a diversified source of seeds. Next task: Caching them in different locations!

Here's the issue with seed vaults. They are generic and may or may not do well in the South. What you need are seeds for plants that thrive where you live. Many of the seed vaults have seeds that grow best in the North and are not heat tolerant. Crops like beans, cowpeas, cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, watermelons, cucumbers, greens, okra, summer squash. Varieties that are known to grow well here. Don't forget onions, garlic, and sweet potatoes.

I suggest you not get canned seeds, but go to your local farm store. They usually sell heirloom/non-hybrid seeds too. Online retailers are good. Resign yourself that you need to buy new seeds every 3+ years or better yet plant a garden every year and save the seeds.

One last thing. Don't forget to store lime and fertilizer. Also, canning equipment and supplies to store all the food.
