The 6 additional solar panels came in today.  They will go with 5 existing solar panels to make an 11 panel string, all coming in on two wires.  37.65VDC under max load times 11 = 414 VDC to the inverter and also to charge the batteries.  So I have gone from 24VDC to 48 VDC and now my neighbor is putting in 414VDC charging to Li-Ion batteries.  Times are changing....

I like that cadweld splice, I just used a grounding clamp.

How did you sink the ground rod?      I used a 2 lb hammer for a good workout to drive my 8' rod into the ground.

I've read up a lot on grounding principles and know that having more than 1 rod can be problematic.       I didn't want to risk bringing lightning into the house so most of the system is on the house's old ground but I isolated the combiner box from the panel rack and grounded the panel rack and panel frames to a separate rod.

I also moved the electric fence to a separate solar powered charger so the fence couldn't act as a lightening rod.

First there were two of us tag teaming it.  We started with a mini sledge hammer and finished with a maul.
My understanding is if there is more than one ground, they should be made common. (tied together) The influence of a ground rod is 1.1 times the length so to get the most out of two 8 ft ground rods they should be at least 17.6 ft apart.  That is 8*1.1=8.8 * 2 = 17.6.  The problem with using the one shot is the electrical supply house does not stock them so you have to buy a box of 10.  That's why I usually have some in stock.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that Home Depot keeps 8' copper clad ground rods in stock.

On the ground rod  the easiest one i ever did we used a hammer drill (a big one ) . The guy had a cup  about 2" deep on a we a shaft . Went right down . Looked like this.
