A Small Business Administration analysis found that about 90 percent of the country's damage costs from natural disasters happen in ZIP codes with less than 20 percent of the country's population. Here's a New York Times article covering more than a decade of disaster data.

I remember being in third grade and learning that New Orleans was built below sea level, right on the ocean. And I remember thinking how that was a very stupid place to build a city. My opinion hasn't changed.
