Too late to plant? Too late to prune?
« on: April 01, 2019, 07:41:12 PM »
All of my other projects have gotten out of hand. I haven't planted anything. I also need to prune my hedges up against the house.

Is it too late to plant anything in particular?

Last year, I did tomatoes, peppers, onions, corn, and potatoes.

I don't see any specific buds on the hedges - pineaplle guave - if that matters.

We're going to have a cooler than normal spring so you can still plant cool weather crops - kale, cabbage, lettuces, etc.

And last frost for me is 4/15, probably similar for you so no, you aren't too late to do the regular hot weather veggies, they can't even go out yet.

I am interested if anyone responds about the pruning, the plums did bloom late this year so are still alive and need some serious pruning along with the peaches & nectarines.

I don't see any problem with pruning.  I would not remove over 1/3 of the tree though.

Thanks!

Seems like I planted in early March or even February last year. I haven't even bought a Farmers Almanac this year.

Some things have buds, and I wouldn't want to prune them, but the guavas aren't showing any.

Don't prune azaleas now or you will cut off the flower buds (like my old man once did.)
