Wood stove

We have an old Buck stove down in the basement. It produces good heat but is a wood hog. I would like to replace it with a newer more efficient model. Any suggestions?

How many sq feet are you heating (not how large your house is) and is it an old drafty farmhouse on Minnesota or a well insulated home in Florida?

Our house in located in Georgia. 2400 sq ft basement and 2400 sq ft house. Presently, I use it as a back up and when the nights are really cold. Our main source of heat are 2 propane central HVAC units. We also have prone gas logs in our den.

When I bought mine 5 years ago, Jotul was the most efficient available locally (shop is in Bremen).  I have one and two Windsors - the Jotul outperforms them by 25% in wood consumption and the construction is much more robust.  I'm already needing to replace the rope around the windows on the Windors.  Pay for the Jotul, it's worth it.
