Anyone have experience growing wheat in the ATL area? I'm looking at the ancient variety Emmer vs. common hybrid varieties like Gore. They say Emmer is very disease resistant. I also looked an Einkorn, but couldn't find much about it's resistance.

My neighbor plants about 40 acres of wheat during the winters some years but I'm not sure what variety.       He says he doesn't make much money on it but it enriches the soil.      It's about 4" tall now so he planted a little later than usual this year.

Most plant the hybrids. I ordered some 5lbs of Emmer berries to test sprout and grind for bread as a test. Here in GA wheat has problems with Hessian fly, rust, and powdery mildew all of which Emmer is supposed to be resistant.
