If you are planning on being symbolic on it, put some extra bucks in the bucket and go all the way. The ones you noted are basic hunting rifles that are not scary looking. Go scary across the board.

This was my point. I'm a prepper. I don't need to line up for overpriced scary rifles. As far as symbolism, a Crickett 22 = 50 BMG on the NICS rolls.
I WANT a 50 BMG because duh, but when it comes to plunking down 5-12K for something I can't really take advantage of in my locale, I just can't do it.
Another one I've added to the list is a 338 LM precision rifle for closer to $1200. I'll never stretch its legs either, but a lot closer to responsible budgeting.
The 50 excels at anti material of course, but my only foreseeable anti material role is defending the road into my property, in which case I'll have to hope a 338 to the windshield is as effective as a 50 to the block. God, please let me never find out.
