So I started a Youtube channel. I am not an expert and don't claim to be; rather, my channel is to share my experiences and learnings, especially from a Christian prepper standpoint. Examining where Christianity and Preparedness intersect, sharing what I've learned so far on my journey, and hopefully learning from a lot of people of like mind. (And slaying trolls!) Here's to it!

Congrats on starting a YouTube Channel. Now you can chronicle your journey on prepping. You would actually be surprised as to how many folks will take your ideas and use them. Don't sell yourself short. This is journey that you will make a mistake here and there. Just learn by them. No one here is perfect and we all make mistakes from time to time. Good luck and keep them videos coming. You are doing great.

Thank you!
I have him in my phone as Fence Guy. He's real chill. $1 per linear foot, as opposed to $10 per foot retail. 770-527-2333. You must go to job site with your truck, but he'll help you load most of the time (sometimes he's busy working).

This is gonna be a fun one. I created this video in direct response to otherwise innocent questions/scenarios that were posed by preppers on Facebook forums, such as, "Do you keep a Bible in your bug out bag?" and other non-incendiary posts that just seem to bring out the biggest atheist trolls just waiting to pounce. If you don't "believe" in God, why are you so militant about it?

I have seen that survival seed vault on Amazon. From what I remember it had mixed reviews. Some people had trouble getting their seed to start when they actually planted it. Still worth getting though. 2 is 1 and all.
I picked up a sealed #10 can of Heirloom seeds from Emergency Essentials last week when I needed a few more bucks in my cart to qualify for free shipping. I put the can up. It's always good to have a diversified source of seeds. Next task: Caching them in different locations! 8)

Here's the issue with seed vaults. They are generic and may or may not do well in the South. What you need are seeds for plants that thrive where you live. Many of the seed vaults have seeds that grow best in the North and are not heat tolerant. Crops like beans, cowpeas, cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, watermelons, cucumbers, greens, okra, summer squash. Varieties that are known to grow well here. Don't forget onions, garlic, and sweet potatoes.
I suggest you not get canned seeds, but go to your local farm store. They usually sell heirloom/non-hybrid seeds too. Online retailers are good. Resign yourself that you need to buy new seeds every 3+ years or better yet plant a garden every year and save the seeds.
Here is a nice local source: http://www.athensseed.com/ (http://www.athensseed.com/)

http://heirloomseeds.com/southern-vegetables (http://heirloomseeds.com/southern-vegetables)
http://seedsforthesouth.com/ (http://seedsforthesouth.com/)
One last thing. Don't forget to store lime and fertilizer. Also, canning equipment and supplies to store all the food.

Re: Raising rabbits. Got your mind along with wife, kids if appropriate into the idea of raising softie, smoothie, pinkie and brownie, along with jumper and the little guy, then killing, cleaning, cooking and eating them?
While in Ga, had 3 steers going. When they were obtained they were 3, 5, and 7 days old. Holstein bull calves that were then turned into steers at age 3 months. Was kind of personal to put the bands on the hangy down parts.
My wife knew she would be cooking parts of them. She was not at all interested in watching the cute little calves play in the field.
Think about that part.

Is couponing worth it for preppers?
https://youtu.be/KxF49OYqk5w
-
Physical coupons are a timesuck to me. I could never justify it. I'd spend too much time on it, buy things I didn't need, etc. To do it right, you need to clip everything ever, and then match them up later.
I like online deals and couponing where the deals come to me.
I do use Southernsavers, but not to match coupons. I do it to make my Publix BOGO shopping list. There's a BOGO section and you can just print what you want. Sometimes there's a link to an online coupon. Publix BOGO is great for coffee, peanut butter, canned soup, etc.
That Cottonelle I have in 3camels for Amazon and give 3.47 for it on Prime all the time so I'm happy - not sure what you paid with the coupons.
-
I use e-coupons too. I'm highly brand loyal. Doing the extreme coupon thing overly difficult.

Clipping coupons does seem like a huge time sink.
One thing I found was coupon matchup sites that list certain deals and the coupons that apply to them. That way you could file the circulars by week, and just reference them when a specific coupon is needed, instead of clipping them all. For example, one matchup this week referenced a RedPlum circular from March, so if you had it on file, you could clip it then.
It seems most of the deals revolve around some sale the store is doing PLUS a manufacturer coupon PLUS an incentive like $5 off $25 or Extra Care Buck type credits. When a few of these factors line up, you can get stuff for free, or even "make" money doing it. I would like to catch a sale on canned foods PLUS use a coupon to get them free or for like 10 cents. I feel that would be good specifically for prepping.

ChristianJ,
I was taking care of some business today and chit-chating with the lady that was helping me. She asked me what I was doing for Memorial Day weekend. I said I was going to check out a couple of sales and see if I could find a good deal on something I couldn't live without. I asked her what she was doing and she said she was going to stay home and relax because there'd been too much excitement lately. I asked what excitement? At her place of work or personally.
She said "No, just everywhere". I said "Oh you mean the kids in Manchester." She looked me straight in the eye and said "That's low, even for the devil"

A (Brown!) Gun Carrying Prepper's Take on the Philando Castile Shooting
https://youtu.be/onrM8l2ExJ4
-
You're right, that was a bad situation all around. I've watch some of these police shootings where they just pull over someone for some small violation and get shot because the guy they pulled over is up to something, wanted, or just downright crazy. I also worry because once the police know you are carrying a gun you become a potential threat and every move you make could be taken the wrong way.
When my (white) boys started driving I told them to do exactly what you were saying. When pulled over keep you hands in full view the whole time, be polite, do what you're told, and don't argue. You never know if someone fitting you're description just committed a crime. The police have a tough job no since making it tougher.
I've have also had police come to our door wanting to look at our camera footage to check for cars going past. I open the door a few inches ask what they wanted. Once they tell me they then ask why I didn't open the door wider. I open it to show my dog (139 lbs Lab - Great Dane mix sitting calmly at my side), both cops reached for their guns. I was not happy but it worked out alright. This was in my home and it could have still gone bad if my dog moved.
-
I think it was a tragedy. You can't always fix or get closure for a tragedy or punish someone for it.
My take - as informed as anyone else's, I suppose. Since you can see the gun in the original post shooting video and presumably he didn't expose it after being shot seven times, I'm assuming the cop saw it on some level, and said immediately at the scene "his hand was open too big to be reaching for the wallet". In the closeups it looks like the gun and wallet were in the same pocket.
My whole take is that the two were having completely different conversations. Yanez saying "Don't reach for it/Don't pull it out" meant "Hey - stop what you're doing!" and Castile saying "I'm not gonna pull it out meant "Although I've clearly got my hand down here by my gun, my intent is to bypass the gun and reach down to the wallet". With hindsight 20/20, Yanez should have said something like "Stop! Freeze! Get your hands up!" and Castile should have said something like "Accessing my wallet is going to involve my hand on my gun. How would you like me to proceed?"
If you've ever seen the videos of the cops getting shot at stops, it's so instant. It's life or death in sometimes what doesn't even seem like a second. Yes - he absolutely could have done better, but he didn't commit a crime.
I agree with you about the NRA - you and I both would have done better as passengers. I think the NRA expects a certain amount of responsibility from its members, and any statement they make, while potentially damning of Yanez decisions, would be damning of Castile as well.
There is one thing I don't agree about in your suggestion for being pulled over. Once the cars have stopped, he records the plate, calls in his position, adjusts his equipment, etc. You've got a good two minutes. Get your documents out BEFORE he approaches. In most cases in GA it's just your license, because they know you have insurance. But if you know why they pulled you over, have that supporting document out as well (My last stop was for an expired tag. When the cop got to the window, I had my DL AND my tag receipt in my hand).
Bad shoot? Yeah in the sense that Castile probably didn't pose a threat ultimately, but not something to ruin another life over mutual bad decisions.
Thanks for sharing the video.
-
Thank you for your thoughtful reply Lilburner. I agree with pretty much everything you wrote.
The one question I had - Are you saying one should get out the license and info after being pulled over, before the LEO walks over? I would be more concerned about the cop thinking I was reaching for a weapon in the interim. I feel more comfortable with my hands on the wheel. I forgot to mention I take the car off after putting it in park as well.
-
He's doing some tasks when he stops. He's not even looking at you.
It's when he starts to approach the car when he starts looking for your hands. If you notice, they tend to swing out as wide as possible (much more so in a parking lot than on the side of a busy highway). That's when they're looking for hands.
-

Eh, I'm a brown man. I don't take my chances moving about my car (looking like I'm either trying to hide something or produce a weapon). I'll wait until the LEO is at the door to slowly and calmly get what he asks me to get.
-
This conversation is starting to sound like the Chris Rock advice video. ;D
-
I'm no trained law enforcement expert. We used to have one on here. Maybe another one is lurking to add insight.
But If I pulled you over and you posed the standard risk of any traffic stop regardless of race or whatever...
I'd want you to do your fidgeting when there's a bunch of steel and glass between us rather than get up there to point blank range at an open window and have to be constantly aware of all hand movements going into nooks and crannies or your person and vehicle.
-
But If I pulled you over and you posed the standard risk of any traffic stop regardless of race
The problem is that this is simply just not true.
80 year old white grandma's don't get treated the same way as a black/brown male in his 20's. That's just the way it is.
I don't want to get too deep into the identity politics thing because that is something I will leave for the racist progressive left. But reality is reality.
-
Bad shoot. Simply put.
Cop approached vehicle, straight to side window, bent down, hands near knees to speak to driver.
You do not do that to a vehicle you suspect is an armed robber.

Excellent!!! Good video. It should help anyone that uses the good sense God blessed them with to get started. It was straightforward and simple enough that I understood it.
I was taught faith, firearms, and food, in that order. It's been my experience, you can't give a person faith if they don't want it. But when the collapse happens, a lot of people will be scared silly and looking for anything that works. The harvest is getting ripe.
-
ChristianJ, great video. The tomato sauce you talk about. Are you talking about tomato paste? I hate to say it, but most people don't know how to create eatable spaghetti sauce from paste. Better for them to get jars of ready to use sauce, even though it's 5X the price. I get marinara and some that already have beef or sausage in them. I recommend canned chicken for easy protein. Also, condensed Campbell's soup, cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, broccoli and cheese, etc. They can be mixed with pasta or rice to help with menu/food fatigue. In tough times menu fatigue can become a real problem.

Oh, it definitely is. The Father will take their arrogance and pride and cut them at the knees. Many knees will bow and tongues will confess that thought they never would before.

No I am referring to the sauce that comes in 8 oz cans, as opposed to the paste in 4 oz cans.
Good call on the condensed Campell soup. I will need to pick up some of that.

With that box, and the stuff on the shelf, you might want to also think about a rifle.

Wow - just got caught up with your videos - things started taking off for you about the same they time they did for me so I couldn't watch too many videos.
That's quite a step to cash in everything and go all in!
Best of luck with it - looking forward to hearing more!

I have thought, and taken action, and iterated that process a handful of times. ;-)

Haha I did. I have an unusual love of Easter Eggs. Thanks for noticing!
I switched my provider to Verizon (literally the only provider that works here). I have 4g in my cabin. It's really spotty here (as in, go 50 ft and you have 0g). My cabin is on a little hill, so I think that helps. Stupidly enough, I didn't check the internet on my particular building site before I chose it - I just lucked out. I pretty much do everything from my phone. But if I want to write longer messages or emails or edit video I'll use my laptop and then turn my phone into a hotspot and it works great.

Haha she is! She's a good dog, she loves being out here.
I shaved clean on Nov 5 (something I NEVER do). About 2 months in now. I want to shoot for a year but we'll see what happens. :-p

Excellent ! You have earned the title of homesteader. I am working on getting a bee hive up and running now. Next I should consider chickens or rabbits. Maybe both ! That will stop all of this running up and down the road and camping out.......

It would definitely keep you at home more! Or near it...
Both chickens and rabbits are easy and require minimal maintenance.
3 hens is a nice start. They are quiet, don't take much feed, and 3 hens will give about 2 eggs a day.
Rabbits are simple as well. They require more of an investment in infrastructure (cages, etc), but they use SO LITTLE feed and grow so big it's absurd. I am raising pedigree Silver Fox breeding trios (1 boy and 2 girls). Let me know if you'd be interested in one.

How do you keep your animals safe in 100+ degree temps?
https://youtu.be/r3c6huZh_Ss

How well is your cabin insulated? I expect you could get that inside temp to drop even more with additional insulation. Our renovation started out with no insulation and would get unbearable during the day. After completing the installation of R30 in the ceiling and R19 in all the exterior walls, we saw a significant increase in comfort and that is with no ac at all.

R19 in walls and metal bubble insulation on the underside of the tin roof. Insulation has been very helpful thus far.

Glad you're doing ok. Stay strong.
I recommend a unusual movie to help with your faith struggle. Signs with Mel Gibson. Yes, it's advertised as a SciFi movie, but the story is really about a man whose faith was really tested, but he later realized all our struggles have a purpose.
Look at our struggles from God's view point, with his goals. God's not so worried about what happens to us on Earth, He knows the big picture and the long view.
Blessings to you.
