Food and Water / Re: What a Great Day….

Anyone else with a sweet tooth?  I got to thinking that when things go south, I may not have time to stand around and bake cookies.
This week, I decided to take a look at instant pudding.  A small box takes two cups of milk, wish for two minutes...doable.  Walmart near us HAD one large and one small box of the chocolate, and the same in banana.  I had a gallon of raw milk, so made a small box.  I rehydrated some bananas and added some....pretty good.
My main point was the four boxes...total.  of instant pudding.
Each month, I concentrate on adding something to storage.  I am back to sweets.  Time goes fast.  I also noticed that one stick of Crisco (one cup). was $5.00.  They even made that box look like it contained two sticks.  I used an old can of Crisco this winter and it was just fine.  It also has other uses.  The five dollar stick was still there when I left....crazy times.  Big bags of rice were up apron 30% for the bigger bags, from a few months back.  Anyone seeing shortages, or price gouging?

R.W.S. Another good one is Wiild Lettuce.  It's great for pain
Many of your culinary herbs, such as Rosemary and Thyme, are also great when used as Medicinal tinctures.  I bought blue bottles dropper bottles.  They also come in brown. A spice rack on the back of a door holds a lot of these bottles, once they are drained, after the period of time suggested.  You can always leave them in the jar longer.  If you can find green sweetgum balls, you would be a lucky man.  I have not found any here yet, but I still have a lot of exploring to do.  Check out Rosemary Gladstar.

I am just starting to learn and grow medicinal herbs.  This past week I planted chamomile, marshmallow, yarrow, feverfew and lavender.  I have potted up 56 marshmallow plants.  I tried to pot up yarrow but it is still too small and hard to work with.  As the seeds come up and grow a bit then I will pot them up.  I plan to plant some of each at my Region 2 backwoods mountain BOL campsite.

If I can manage I will also bring some to the Spring Campout for the auction.

Kind of funny that this came up as I will be potting marshmallow next week. Have a wild ginger bed that gets thinned this week to make new beds as I only have it in 2 locations right now . B VES me a chance to show it at my Friday meeting and talk about its uses.

It looks like we have 2 threads going for the camp out.  We probably need to just use 1 to prevent any confusion?

Noted. Perhaps someone with the ability to do so could move all of the campout discussion to the "proper" thread?

Yes,  At my Region 2 BOL we have two springs and spring creeks along with the two spring fed ponds.  The trick will be to get enough sunlight to the marshmallows.

I also have a pan full of Yarrow that needs potted up net.  I am spending a lot of time at the potting table.

R.W. at the other house, we planted our Marshmallow down near the lake, where the soil remained moist, under normal conditions.  A spring would work just as well.  The flowers we had looked like Hollyhocks.  Can't dig the root for a few years, in order to get the best results.  Good information to post!  We need more herbs of this nature, if people can find a place to plant them.  Many (not this one) do well in pots.
