5% death rate, on same line as the flu
Patented virus with mention of vaccine in the patent
Epidemiologist who says this is a bunch of media hype
China cancelling New Year celebrations and quarantining cities due to said virus cuts down on demand for pork amid pork shortages (could be tin foil hat, could be something)
And y'all know big gub always pushes unnecessary things (i.e., vaccines) amid fear & panic.

I don't understand the press (or Chinese) hysteria - this 'deadly' flu is no more deadly than any of the other seasonal flus we experience. What am I missing?

I think it’s the mortality rate. The flu mortality rate is well under 1%, while this is anywhere from 2-5%, depending on which article you read. I’ve seen a few videos that make me alarmed - people laying in the streets, dead and living side by side lining hospital hallways, roads ripped out to quarantine.

All of the above. Makes me nervous. I told the wife I was going to town to make a run on a store for supplies. She told me to stay home and calm down. We have enough to hunker down here if need be. Things just are not adding up. Maybe in a couple of days it will get sorted out.

I got this video from a prepper friend that lives up near Vancouver, BC. Her daughter is a flight attendant. She said people (Many) are being removed from airplanes and being taken to local hospitals. She included this video.

The Chinese government has never been known for it's truth in reporting. There is a strong possibility that they are under-reporting. No matter the country, the general public is never trusted with what is considered "too much information". Some of you may remember, or have read about how close we came during the Cuban Missile Crisis. President Kennedy had his family packed and the jet was running.
If this does turn out to be a non-event, it wouldn't hurt to have things on hand for the flu.: Astragalus Root, Sambucus, Fire Cider....whatever you use to help your immune system. We are taking these things now. I made extra bone broth and we are trying to eat extra healthy....just so much a person can do. Hand washing, wear gloves to the store, then wash them, maybe wear a mask if you are really worried. I hear those don't help much, unless they are the really good ones. Stay healthy everyone!
Would like to know where they are removing people from planes, and taking them right to the hospital. One of my closest friends is a senior flight attendant, flying Internationally three days a week into different countries, in Europe. There has been no mention of this. Her return flights are into Atlanta.

"The hospitals near airports ARE removing passengers from planes from certain flights out of China. I have people in the airline industry and at the hospital this is happening at. They had caught 4 cases as of yesterday and are trying to keep it hush hush so as not to scare the public."

It would make sense to do this, rather than parade them through there airports. Problem arrises when people may not show symptoms for up to two weeks. Since nurses treating those affected in China are saying it is much worse than reported, that is pretty reliable information. I heard this morning that forty-five thousand had left the country before anything was reported.
The flu in Ga. is the worse it has been in a long time as well. At least we live in an area where we can garden year round. Keep plenty of non-hybrid seed on hand!

It is off to the store tomorrow AM to stock up on pandemic supplies. When the first case is reported in the Atlanta area, I will go to full quarantine here. I go early so there will be few people out.
My doctor said Clorox is one of the few things that will kill a virus. Wipe down all surfaces with clorox and water solution !

I have 2 good friends (one with whom I can talk about certain events neither they nor the military are supposed to discuss with anyone) and a cousin, whom are all flight attendants. So far nothing like this for any of them and the one I can talk to in depth is out of LA. But just cause it hasn't happened to them doesn't mean it's not happening.
Also the latest numbers are running at 2.4% mortality rate. But those numbers are out of China. When I start seeing greater mortality numbers from other countries with positive cases, then I'll start considering this something to worry over.
As I told another person, just cause this might not be something to panic about doesn't mean we shouldn't be using it as a reminder to be prepared in this area and stock up even more on pandemic supplies.
I already have to protect my two elderly family members from many viruses so we take elderberry, oscillococcinum (homeopathic), garlic cloves, fire cider, vitamin c, lemon balm, and apply thieves oil - daily (except elderberry - it's M-F, off on weekends). I also have a serving of bone broth, kombucha, and kefir as well. Wish all the others would as well. Oh and neti pot.
It might not hurt to take a dose of elecampane daily as well as it is a lung ally and this virus is pneumococcal in nature.
So far only MrBeans has gotten sick this winter and he realized afterwards that he put the thieves hand sanitizer in his drawer and hadn't used it in several weeks. He made sure to take it out and started using it again! (PS: that's all he does preventative wise ... won't do "witchdoctoring" unless he gets sick)

Eight thousand dead in the U.S. this flu season....Either way, we need to be extra careful. The woman that cuts my hair told me her husband went to three pharmacies and Walmart, looking for masks yesterday and could find none.
A friend of mine, who is a nurse at the hospital here, told us that she found some good masks back in the paint department at the Walmart. Maybe paint stores would still have them as well.
If you are out remember to not touch your nose or eyes before getting home to the soap and water, if you don't have hand sanitizer on your person.
Now, about those emergency bras....I was all excited about getting one and wearing it on my face, to a Super Bowl party this weekend. I had planned to get an extra large one, to impress people....the site is not up....guess the joke was on me.
Thorn and I take Astragalus Root, and Sambucus. I have lemon balm for tea...so far so good... Also made some fire water, that will be ready to use next week.. If all else fails, there is always grandma's favorite Brandy/honey combo.

You have to keep in mind that these are videos out of communist China - where social credit rules everything. If you don't have enough social credit, you don't get certain treatment like you would if you have high social credit.
Also, the mortality rate - don't start being alarmed about that until you see the mortality rate outside of China. Because the mortality rate out of China is artificial when people with low social credit are getting little to no care.

The wife & I were talking about N95 mask shortage in China. I told her that I had heard you could take a surgical cloth mask and tie it on over the N95 & that it was washable. She liked the idea so we watched a utube video & now she is in the sewing room making a couple of masks. We plan to wash them out in clorox & water (soap is assumed).
I will try & take a picture. I got my first look pink.

That's a good idea. My son has some from his time in China. For everyone who doesn't have your mask I followed a link to Amazon this morning they were $14 but back in stock in March. I went to pick up a prescription an hour later opened my computer and the mask were $41. Wow! Glad I have mine.

I wonder how this would work? Maybe a cloth cover and this as a filter. It's say it's food grade material and excellent for water. Might be able to use this for pets when they go out. They have 5 and 1 Micron fabric.

The HD N95s are 3/$5.47 in the paint dept. I would assume you'd need to get away from the metro area as both the ones within 30 miles of me have plenty.
Just for fun, I soaked one with a 50/50 beach water solution and let it air dry in the sun. No smell and it didn't fall apart. I figure I will only need them if I was out near other folks and I'll be self isolating if bad things happen. From what I can find so far, you need to be pretty close to someone's cough/sneeze or have physical contact since viruses are pretty large and don't float on the wind like say, corn pollen, which can travel miles.

Told my niece out in Bremen to buy mask, she hasn't been keeping up with the news. I sent her a list of things to start prepping, she is a nurse but not prepared for this. I hope she can find the things she needs.

This week I stopped by a local supplier of commercial products and bought 2 boxes of 3M N95 masks (20 in a box) for under $12 a box. They confirmed their suppliers are already warning them of limited availability.

There have been several successful treatments - all using some combination of antivirals. But it hasn't been used wide spread.
2 questions: Has anyone located information on non-Chinese-born persons contracting the virus? So far, every person I've heard about outside of China has been a Chinese-born/direct descent person. Has anyone heard who aboard the cruise ships have contracted the virus? From what I understand, there is a mix of Chinese and non-Chinese aboard. It does no good to say "7 Americans, 3 Canadians, and 1 Finnish" if they are all either naturalized citizens or have Chinese parents. Make sense?
Medically-wise this needs to broken down into Caucasoid, Negroid, and Mongoloid as it appears to be important.
Secondly, determinations need to be made on why such a high number of deaths within China but not outside of China as well as why is the spread outside of China so slow. Is it a different type of healthcare system? Is it close quarters? Is it a quarantine issue? Is it something else?
My great-grandmother was Chinese so these type of questions mean quite a bit to me.

We get so much of our stuff from China. Like the video says 90% of our drugs. If they don't recover very soon, and it looks like it's only getting worse, we are going to see real shortages of everything from iPhones to medicines, to everything in between. Buckle up!

From what I have read, Wuhan did not have enough staff, hospital space or equipment to care for the large population of those exposed. Many could not get into a hospital and were turned away. I have heard that one hospital that went up quickly was made out of storage containers. Were these holding pens, or care facilities? It would seem that when people needed healthy food the most, not much would be available. This could increase the death toll, due to poor immune systems. Being locked inside would lead to more pneumonia cases....inactivity, poor air quality. Wuhan has so many factors that we would not see here, unless the numbers became over whelming. Not sure about the numbers of Chinese. It would stand to reason that many would be from the area of Wuhan, or would have visited there, possible relatives visiting over Chinese New Year.

Apparently they have changed the reporting method - from lab test to clinical diagnosis, which WOULD jump the cases reported AND prove right those who have been saying that they have been under-reporting all along.

The number of cases and deaths jumped dramatically this morning....Also said it is likely to increase here. It's like we are being fed teaspoons full of information at a time. The government has never trusted us with too much information....

Only the truly clueless have believed any of the information that's been showing up in the news. Especially when they started parroting, "The flu kills more people." They won't report anything the Chinese government doesn't want them to. We already know they can't be trusted!

As of this morning, John Hopkins CSSE is reporting that 1,526 individuals have died from the Wuhan coronavirus. However, many believe that these numbers may be way understated.
One report claims that based on the number of individuals cremated every day in Wuhan, there is around 8,000 deaths from the coronavirus:

Several new concerns.... Think about North Korea, with like 800 miles of border with China. On a regular basis, China smuggles goods into North Korea. I don't think that they are pushing goods over the border with a stick. Would North Korea report any cases of the virus????? You know the answer to that rhetorical question. Sadly, their population, outside of the military is underfed and very susceptible . to any virus, let alone this one. So here it goes....the prepper going off the deep end....would they use infected people against the U.S.? Is anyone buying the great relationship between little rocket man and our president? My knees went weak when I heard president Trump saying that the president of China has things under control. I want the truth from our President, but I understand that he is protecting our new trade agreement. Remember President Kennedy? When did he tell us about the Cuban Missal Crisis? For those of you too young to remember, the answer was never. He had the presidential jet fired up, to take his family to Europe and he was ready to go down with the ship.
My friend, the flight attendant, who flies among the countries of Italy, Germany and France told me that the airlines is not taking any special precautions, such as gloves or serialization procedures (saw her yesterday, nada...) Also, when they are returning to this country, they are ASKED, if they have visited China recently....really??? How long would it take someone to travel through, say, four European countries, then come to the U.S.? Answer, a few days...by then, their passports would not show China on the same page, and they are only looking at the first page... Add this to all of the above, and what do you have???? Several well versed on the virus, reporting here are saying we will have a pandemic. Wow, how I pray they are wrong, but this is "in your face" information that deserves consideration.... maybe it will be a non-event, so then, we are more prepared for whatever...

A federal judge late Friday temporarily blocked the U.S. government from quarantining coronavirus patients in Costa Mesa after city officials argued that the surprise proposal came with no information about how surrounding neighborhoods would be protected from the deadly virus.
The city filed a request on Friday afternoon to halt the plan to house 30 to 50 people who tested positive for the coronavirus at the state-owned Fairview Developmental Center until the 109-acre center — which sits next to several residential neighborhoods — is determined suitable for the quarantine and safeguards are put in place to protect the neighboring community.

According to two news channel, they have raised the number of town, in Italy, that are being closed off at this time.
One theory in South Korea, is that a religious cult snuck over to China for a funeral, then came back. Of course, there is so much sneaking back and forth there, I am surprised that they blamed The spread on that one instance. If the church they showed on the news today, in South Korea, is showing that church, they are in deep doo doo. The congregation is huge. They are shutting it down temporarily. In Iowa, we called this closing the gate after the horse got out.
Still thinking about the relation to temperature...parts of China are pretty warm, and it is still active in those areas.

Ravenwood, you are so right. There are so many people that can't prepare. Also, so many out there that never took it seriously, and didn't put back a little at a time, as finances would allow. I worry, and pray for them as well.
Today, we went into town for what I hope is the last time for a long time. Thor will pick up a few more bags of chicken food, and supplies at Tractor Supply, early in the morning and that will be it.
I got to thinking about the bone broth that I make and how healthy it is. It occurred to me that if this went on a long time, I may not have enough. I do have lots of frozen chickens! So, if I were ill, I would want to open a box (maybe). Went to Ingles today, because I can get everything I need there to make my 4 Thieves...Well, all the bone broth...and I do mean all...was sold out. There were also out of organic 2% milk, with the expiration dates that usually go out six weeks. Went to Kroger, they had two boxes of bone broth, and three half gallons left of the milk. Most carts had bleach in them. People are starting to listen between the lines, and seeing how quickly this thing has moved, esp. with people confined to their homes in Italy. That seems less "third world country", to folks. Bought apple sauce, pudding, have lots of sugar free Gatorade. We have done all that we can do, now will sit back and watch... Abigayle, I have a few bottles of clorox but I have an electrical device runs on 12VDC. pour salt water thru it about 4 times and it is chlorine. So we also stock salt as it has a longer shelf life. I am planning on bringing the device for show & tell to campout (If I come)... Watching the virus progress ever closer.

Country Singer, It has been on the news (FOX) for the past half hour now. Maybe it was announced sooner, I was out in the greenhouse. I was disappointed that the CDC said "not a matter of it, but when". That part was good, but he followed up with suggesting that people put "a little bit extra back". I was hoping they would push for more than that. I guess they are worried about the shelves emptying out. This is already happening. Rome just said that the city number numbers of the virus have increased by 40%. They are now claiming 35 cases in the U.S.

Edited: Well this old dog is too tired to go anywhere tonight. :( Will try for tomorrow, I forgot spinach seed at the seed store. So may go back there and take my one precious 5 gallon bucket of this seasons' pecans to have them cracked and shaken. So glad I stocked upon masks years ago when Emergency Essentials would put them on special. Take care folks!

Ravenwood, that is a hard call...With the W.H.O. finally saying something, people may react. Jim went out for our last trip today (maybe, wait and see how things go). While at Lowe's, a guy behind him had bought the rest of the eye protectors. Now, some of my friends think I am nuts, that it is a non-event (2%). One flies to Italy every week. I won't be seeing her for awhile. I am sure she thinks that it is people like me, that are going to bring down the airline industry. You could call Walmart now, and have them get your order ready for you. Drive around back. That way, you are not messing with Walmart at night. I never do that. Sometimes, I am there at 7 a.m.This could also save you a trip it, if they don't have what you need to fill any gabs. Please call me when you can, I hate to bother you if you are able to catch naps...

North of Atlanta. Went back to WalMart around 6 pm. The rice, dried beans, oats, canned meats, that kind of stuff, almost cleared out. Shelves were full at 2:30 pm. No panic, no crazyness, but it wasn't just me getting ready.

My biggest concern is getting my college kid from KSU (only 25 minutes away) and getting to our BOL. I'm worried that if it gets near us that they'll quarantine where I am, where he is, and/or where we're going.
What are your plans if you're in a similar situation?

I am quarantining at home. Since I live in the country & have 3 vegetable gardens, I filled the freezer with meat. I am planting early crops now. Today I planted radishes and planted corn before the last rain. Blueberries are blooming.

Upa~ I'm in your situation. Got 2 at KSU. One has bought extra groceries and is overall solidly my kid. The other never believes anything about anything and humors my simple mind. One is by the Kennesaw campus and one by the Marietta campus. Perhaps we should put them in touch with each other.... just in case.
However, one good thing has come of this. MrBeans is officially on board. No more wiggling around the edges. He was surprised at the things we already have as he was telling me to go buy certain things.
Bean4 had a rude awakening concerning this whole ordeal - the family in Italy may or may not get to come home for the wedding. She's another that merely humored what I've tried to teach in the past. All the sudden she wants to know what quarantine entails and how much do they need to have on hand if we are quaratined/locked down. Wish they'd all have listened along the way but at least most are listening now.

8GB my oldest keeps telling us we are spending to much time on the virus. He is a great resource when it comes to translating Chinese for us and explaining the culture. The thing is he keeps going to Duluth for the Chinese restaurants which are great but right now it's a little scary. I don't know who is visiting from Wuhan or now South Korea or Italy.

See the last three paragraphs if you don't want to read the whole thing. Most people will probably disagree with this assessment, but it makes sense to me.
Trump is dismissing the outbreak and will continue to do so until it's too late to do anything about it. The Democrats are already criticizing him for taking it too lightly. By the time the election is here, we will be in the midst of a serious outbreak, and the Democrats will be able to take credit for calling the disaster as Trump botched it. And then we'll get a socialist president, which nobody thinks is possible today. Not today, but wait 9 months and I think it will be much different. And they will have free reign to do whatever they want as US citizens beg them to fix the crisis. Problem, reaction, solution.

Another new case was just announced after Trump got off the air. It was in CA. If they have only tested around 500 people, they don't have a clue....I wondering about how soon they are releasing people. What about the secondary infection? That is a real thing, and a top concern of many researchers. I also wonder how many test kits are available. China had it's supply ship turn around. Nothing is coming out of 3M right now.
Monday no bone broth or 2% organic milk. Lots of people buying bleach. I wore gloves, but no one else in the store had them on. So much to digest and sort out.
We are bugging in, as we have everything we need here. There may be things we would like to have, after the first three weeks, but we can always live fairly well. Wish our kids weren't on the other side of the country.

The service members are out mingling with the population regularly, no different from here in the U.S., and many of them live off post. Also, there are Koreans that work on the bases. It was probably picked up through "incidental contact". And everyone who's been to Korea as a member of the military is probably chuckling at my characterization of "incidental contact", especially if it was a single guy that contracted the ailment.

So, the pattern pandemics follow (posted a couple pages back) has me thinking .... People are sort of waking up - they are panic-buying in certain areas (not including locked down areas) like New Zealand. Then, what if it all does just seemingly disappear in the typical 6ish month time frame? All those currently panicked people won't continue to prepare, and won't panic {in time} the next go 'round cause they'll be thinking it's more of the same when they start hearing about covid19 outbreaks.
Right now I've finally got a couple more kids listening to me. So I'm trying to share pandemic patterns with them just in case this is a real pandemic so they will continue. But I have a nurse practitioner daughter-in-law that is sharing OLD CDC information (stuff they've already changed within this past week) and poo-pooing everything I tell other kids, making them think I'm nuts. Even when I point out its old news she just waves her hand like "I'm the nurse practitioner here, not you." Grrr

On channel five today, feature editor suggested that people not panic but store two months worth of food. I wish I could have helped them out....she suggested a bunch of chicken breasts for the freezer. How do you make bone broth out of that? She did buy chips, etc. to be put back, just in case. No cheese wrapped in wax, very little for flu symptoms except pain and fever. I would have had a bag of apples, as they keep a long time in the crisper. Don't remember what else she had. Apple sauce and pudding would have been good snacks as they taste good when you don't feel well.
It was good to hear someone say two months for a change, instead of two weeks. She pointed out that if nothing happens, you have these things to use. Got to thinking about buying chicken and making bone broth with the bones. I guess peoples eyes would glaze over and half would be saying "what the he-- is that!"
8 Beans....My kids humor me. I think they are afraid that I will take them out of the will. When I ask them what they have put back, I get answers that reflect it being very little, or next week, when they don't have a car payment. Next week, they will go out with friends on Friday night and forget all about it. I hope they at least remember to wash their hands....Grrrr.

First announcement said death was a woman. They quickly changed it to say it is a man. I might have mis-understood travel bands from Italy. Perhaps it was a strong suggestion at this point. We'll be seeing more cases in France soon. A priest who WAS living in Rome returned to Paris in mid-Feb (that's 2 weeks ago) and tested positive this past Friday. So, it is obviously IN Rome and now it's in Paris. This is a bit worrisome with the Pope being sick.

Keep in mind that the total (all ages) COVID-19 death rate is roughly 2%. Scary but not the end of civilization. Just for comparison the coronavirus called MURs had a 35% death rate. Another coronavirus called SARs had a death rate of about 11% but in people over 65 years old SARs had a 50% death rate. Younger people did better with SARs and seem to do better with COVID-19.
If the rate of deaths by age group for COVID-19 is similar to SARs by age range that means that people who get COVID-19 and are over 65 have roughly a 10% chance of dying. Using these numbers I'd estimate that people under the age of 50 will have less than a 1% chance of dying if they catch COVID-19.
Unfortunately my wife is in her upper 50's and doesn't do well with respiratory when she gets sick. She works two jobs, one of which keeps her in constant contact with lots of people. If this gets much worse I'm going to suggest that she drops that job.

John, good information, I know the two of you worry. Late today, they raised the death rate percentage. All I can tell you is that it was on FOX. I was so shocked that I didn't note who made the prediction, but I think it was more like 3.4. Also hear 20% for seniors. That would be Thor and me. We all need to be very careful. It will be interesting to see what happens when they get a huge number of test kits in another week.

That's one of the ones I've been looking at. They are a bit pricey for something that won't see a lot of use but if I need it I'll need a good one. It says you can use it to hear different frequency sounds but with my hearing I don't know if I need that feature. I guess hubby and boys can use that .

Definitely Littman. Be careful not to get the knockoff. Personally I like my Classic 2 SE, but not sure if they still make that one. If you want to hear a gnat pass gas, you could go with the Cardiology (Even after 24 years in healthcare, I don't need one that fancy). Also invest in a good quality sphygmomanometer. I've found that the needles tend to bump loose on the cheap ones. If you have a mercury filled thermometer, guard it with your life. My last one broke and I'm having a dickens of a time finding a new one. I may end up going with the gallium filled one, but would rather have mercury..

I bought one when my son was born 30 years ago and I think the hospital gave me one when one of my boys was born. I may have a third somewhere too. My cuff is a Santamedical. It's like 19 or 20 bucks on amazon. I guess most would be okay if they were in a stable place where things don't get bounced around a lot. I had a couple of the CVS $8.99 specials that just couldn't hold up to the stresses I put it under.

We are hearing so little about this. Just like the school closings in Ga. It's like they let the faucet drip a little at a time, to keep everything under control. Thor and I had canned salmon, canned liver pate' crackers, wine and homemade soup. Life is good, not need for the store. Well, the City Commissioners met at 10am for an update from the hospital and the results have been reported on Hometown Headlines, so it's for real. One reporter even included the entire email he got about 1am this morning from the hosp. Who is assuring everyone their ER is safe, I just wonder about Saturday evening through Tuesday afternoon! I'm not to sure about hospitals right now. I sliced the back of my hand open the other day but took care of it myself. I wish I could have gotten those Zipstiches before they sold out. I'll have a worst scar than I would have if I had gotten stitches but if I'm not dying I don't need a hospital right now. If I was as brave as my dad I would have stitched it myself but it was on my right hand which would make it hard. My doctor looked at it and said I was smart to treat it the way I did but I should have gone for stitches. When I took hubby a couple of months ago the waiting room was filled with coughing people and they did a awful job on his finger and he spend weeks fighting an infection.

Star Lady, So excited for you and your new greenhouse! I have started many medicinal herbs in mine. I think mine is 8 X 12. I am raising about 250 garden plants in it right now. The squash, broccoli and cabbage will go out tomorrow. The squashes will have a protective grow cover in the raised beds.
The herbs are all growing very quickly and now that we have sunshine, it should be better yet. I do use grow lights. One problem I have had is fire ants. With the monsoon season, they have moved in. I use orange water and whatever else I can do organically. About the time I think they are gone, a new clan arrives. I know you will enjoy yours so much, and hope it is set up and ready for you to do to town!!!! Whoops, no, don't go to town...just yet.

They had our big CoVid19 briefing at the hospital today. I only got to hear part of it because we were so freakin’ busy. For something they are trying to convince us is not a big deal, they sure are making a big deal about it. There’s this whole thing about isolating patients that meet certain criteria, but heck, by the time we determine they are at risk for CoVid19, half the danged staff has already been exposed. I wore my mask all day today. I feel like there’s a huge chunk of information we are missing. I mean, if it’s not that big an issue, why are they dumping 8 BILLION dollars into identification and containment? Do you know how many people die every day from diabetic related illnesses??? I don’t see the government throwing 8 billion dollars at diabetes research....or any of the other diseases that kill thousands of Americans every year. Something smells bad in Stinkville here.

Benny - I've been getting called out on FB by a good friend and a cousin about my questions regarding the lack of detailed info on these infections, the lack of testing. They are throwing numbers at me like only 20% of population is going to catch it and only 8% of THOSE will get seriously ill, 6% critically. 330,000,000 x .20 = 66,000,000. 6% of that number is 3,960,000. We don't even have 1,000,000 hospital beds in the whole country and less than 100,000 ICU beds. Of course they won't all get sick at the same time but when you pull out 1% or more of our medical staff because THEY got sick, you know they are talking out their butts. Percentages sound great, it's people numbers that really matter.
As to the $$$ Congress wants to throw at it, it wouldn't surprise me that it's 3/4 politically motivated. Trump only wanted a little over 2 billion and they gave him 8 billion. Bet a lot of that's going to Big Pharma for research (greasing palms, anyone?) and some so they can say 'see, we did something'. Today, however, I'm finding there are few updates on my regular sources - since this morning it's been nothing and that's making me wonder if the worst is on us, it's too late and they know it.
I ain't skeered, I can stay on the farm for 5-6 months if I don't go out for milk, but I am starting to get pissed off.

Corona viruses aren't hard shelled like that, they have a fatty based coating, which is why the CDC keeps pushing washing your hands - soap dissolves the coating and the virus dies. It doesn't even need to be antibacterial soap. AND btw, for those of you who don't know, most of that liquid hand 'soap' isn't real soap - it might not work.

We are in for the duration at this point. All company is cancelled until mid summer. We have plenty of food. Dr. and Dental apts. cancelled. Last week, we went out once, wearing gloves and masks. We hit the monthly book sale for .25 cents a book. I actually found some pretty good ones on home remedies. Also ordered another Rosemary Gladstar on just herbs.
Now, I am going to play the "glad game" (old Haylie Mills movie). I am glad that this is not a cyber attack, and the internet is still up. I am glad it's spring and we can plant, and care for our animals. I am glad that we are easily entertained, and can watch our flock for entertainment. RWS UV light kills this thing too. It's a higher intensity somewhere around 1.5 watts per square yard or something like that. When I was having my sinus trouble hubby had UV lights installed in the heating and air units. To cut down on things coming into the house. I hope it helps with this.

I know I am old, but when I was in the first grade, there was a UV light in one corner of the room. If you came in sneezing or coughing, you got to sit in the corner under the light. Try that today and you would get crucified.

uv hvac lights are nice, they kill almost everything, prevent stuff from growing on the ac coil which is wet all summer long. they are even supposed to help remove some odors like cigarettes and fish
the bulbs need to be replaced every couple years. they may still be light but their output degrades over time

As far as I can tell from local news sources, her family member is in isolation but wasn't showing symptoms. They did, however, lock up 20 caregivers at the hospital who are now in isolation for 2 weeks and they are calling everyone who was treated by any of those 20 in the ER during the 4 days of not knowing they were exposed. I'm saying locked up, they are in self-quarantine but they are basically out of the medical system. Rumor has it she was at the West Rome WalMart during her free time. That's right next to Sam's in a very busy shopping area (for Rome, that is). Lowe's, Ollie's, 4 fast food restaurants, 2 or 3 banks, etc.
I'm sure the confusion is that some places were reporting the initial or prelim positive test for that woman and then added again when the confirmation from CDC came in. There are now rumors of 2 in Rockmart but that's FB, so who knows? I think that's Polk County.
I'm watching to see if anything comes of my FedEx driver's report of it being in Anniston but I've heard nothing out of AL yet.

First, let me clarify - it's just a guess on my part that it might not work.
Real soap is made of either sodium hydroxide (common lye) or potassium hydroxide (potash) with a fat (oil, lard, etc.) Some of the liquid hand soaps contain other chems (triclosan, hexachloride & a foaming agent (sodium or ammonium laureth sulfate), so they aren't considered 'real' soap and they don't function the same way soap does. Check your label - if either of the hydroxides are on it, it's soap and I know I've seen some out there years ago.
Now, it may be that the not-soap will still dissolve the fatty coating on all the coronaviruses (with the recommended time of 20-30 seconds!) but I've only seen articles addressing real soap. One was a soap making blogger who said her info came from the CDC (if I recall correctly, if not, it was from someplace serious, a coronavirus researcher or lab. Sorry, I only noted the general info.) - and this was before our current scare.
There are tons of articles on studies of hand cleaners and USUALLY soap and very warm water come out best, followed by just warm water and hand sanitizers. Hand WIPES, while still helpful, seem to be the least effective.
My take on all the reading I did - if you want to KILL the virus, use bar soap or a liquid with the hydroxides mentioned - but you gotta go the 20-30 seconds. Any cleanser and warm water does a very good job of REMOVING bacteria and viruses from your hands (again, 20-30 seconds), so it might not matter, I just thought it was better for us to really understand what we are doing.

As of tonight, we are confirmed at 5 with the Gwinnet case awaiting CDC confirmation, but the Georgia Lab hasn't been wrong yet, so I expect we'll see it in the morning. CNN is listing Georgia as 7, and the Gov'r says 5 confirmed with 2 presumptive. The new presumptive is in Fulton.

Star lady, We have missed church the past two weeks, maybe three. There just was not enough information to make us comfortable. For all we know, we may have more in our area than you do. I am getting no information, in terms of testing. I am going to rattle some more bushes to see what I might find. Some friends of ours from church just announced on Facebook that the were staying in. Another person from church commented that he "was not going to hide". I detest it when someone suggests that people using common sense, are "hiding and fearful". We have less reason to be afraid, when we are ready for whatever comes our way.

The grocery stores here had people fighting in the isles at midnight (meaning North Ga.). We were going to make a run in the middle of the night, but after seeing that on TV. I got on the computer and ordered a few steaks and some salmon, along with some stuffed fish. I threw in an order of sweet potato fries and glazed carrots. My total came to around 83.00. It will be here Wednesday. We have lots of canned from last summer, along with some frozen. Best of all we can have a meal a day fresh for about another week. Hopefully by then, the young lettuce will take it place. All schools in our area are closed, of course and now parents are fighting to get food to feed their kids at home....Think ahead people!!!!

I used to shop at that Sam's when I lived in Dallas. They've had shootings at the HD next door and the WalMart isn't far away - they've had several shootings there, too. Most of the subdivisions are fairly upscale in that area, you wouldn't think to see that there. I'm so glad I'm out!

The poor guy went to Headstone Hospital. That’s enough of an underlying problem by itself. They are negligent and routinely kill patients that should have lived. I’m biased, but they earned their reputation from more people than just my late husband.

Every time you see a doctor for the first time or go in for surgery, they will give you this privacy disclosure along with the form to sign allowing them to release information to your insurer since that is an explicit legal requirement under this law.

My daughter just told me "you must be excited, this is what you've been waiting for". Actually, I hoped nothing ever happens. I said that I expected a virus that was far deadlier and not one like this causing so many problems. If we have to, we have all we need to ride this out. Flu meds, prescription meds, food, animal feed, etc. I already work from home. Now that most everything seems to be shutting down, there is no where to go anyway.

(Guangdong Province, China) sent him the following notes on
Coronavirus for guidance:
1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold
2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose.
3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a
temperature of just 26/27 degrees. It hates the Sun.
4. If someone sneezes with it, it takes about 10 feet before it drops
to the ground and is no longer airborne.
5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours -
so if you come into contact with any metal surface - wash your hands
as soon as you can with a bacterial soap.
6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. normal laundry detergent

Has anyone looked at the John Hopkins map lately? You can follow the islands through Caribbean by the little red dots. That is scary because they don't have the medical infrastructure to handle it. The poor Bahamas can't take anymore right now and Haiti is a disaster on a good day. Some of these islands were hit hard by hurricanes in the last few years. I don't know what kind of shape Puerto Rico is in and all these places depend on us to fall back on. I hope we can slow this down here.

We were watching one of the Peak Prosperity videos on YouTube a day or two ago and he explained why people were having such a hard time coming to grips with whats going on right now. He said it's changing a lot of peoples world views. He used The Five Stages of Grief denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance to explain it. He added a sixth one but I don't remember what it was. He said instead of arguing with them directly ask questions and help them to advance to the next stage.

Nope, I am be more careful about what I use and how I use it. Even though we can get things through the mail, it is such a pain to spray or wipe everything down, the open it, clean what is inside and wash your hands. The less delivered the better. I did notice that they Fed Ex driver, that has been delivering packages to our "Amazon Distribution Center", on our front porch, is wearing gloves. Our mail lady is not.. I am going to have to switch to lemonade and vodka soon, so hard times are ahead. Neighbors have offered to leave wine on the front porch for me. I feel like such a lush....Funny part is if I have two glasses of wine, I go to sleep... I am not talking full glasses here.
We are lucky that each day, we can have something fresh. We are using some beans and rice, but the freezers are full. Not a whole lot of variety, due to the chickens and venison. Going to make bread this afternoon, along with hamburger buns.

Wonder how many cases early on were thought to be seasonal flu. China kept this quiet for weeks, and people were back and forth, here for business and pleasure. Think now many you would see at Disney Land and Disney World every week.
On cleaning railings, vinegar would be good. When we lived in Panama, I had a housekeeper who wiped everything down with it, including our old wooden bookcases. Nothing seemed worse for the ware. They used it there due to mold, with the high humidity. Just a little side note...we paid her 15.00 a day. She loved working for us because we fed her lunch and gave her a ride home at night. Wish I had her now, along with the gardener for a whopping 17.50 a day. The bonus for us was working on Spanish over those lunches.

There is something seriously wrong with kids that would "lick stuff" like that. Hear Ca. warns about wearing gloves when you handle Christmas lights. Someone forgot to talk to the kids... I have never met a kid that would consider doing something like that.

Well the coronavirus is getting closer to us. They sent home one of the guys from my son's job site this morning, his fiancee's best friend just tested positive for the virus. They didn't work together or even close to each other. My son has been working by himself and takes his breaks and lunch in his truck just to be safe. I guess we'll know by the end of the day what they'll do.

Ben, Isn't that patient abandonment, for them to close their offices? The direction is to call the Dr. but I would think people might have to be seen before being directed to go elsewhere. Even then, the E.R. should be alerted that they are coming. They also need to know where to go when they get there, so they don't go walking in to an area that isn't prepared to see them. I have a friend who is treating it at home. She was not tested but has all the classic symptoms. She lives in Oregon and says it is too difficult to have it confirmed. You are dividing the deaths by total cases for a mortality rate. Is that the correct calculation?
I look at it as the total ended cases by adding recovered cases to fatalities. This gives the total number of those who got the disease and lived through it or died from it. That is the number who are completed with the infection.
The total infected skews the number because the vast majority is not completed with the disease and eveyone will end up in either the survived or died column.
I cannot find a number of recovered for specific states and I think there is not enough info out yet to give a reasonably accurate number.

Calculating that gives 1665 completed infections (deaths plus recovered) with 619 survivals for a survival rate of 37%. I agree this is a skewed number because there is not a sufficient sample of completed illnesses for an accurate view.
Thoughts folks? Should calculations be made on total active infections or (as I think) on total completed infections factoring in deaths?
I think this calculation is not being reported because the world would go wild if that type of a survival rate number were made known.

Nemo I clicked around on the counties in the Johns Hopkins map and can't see that any county is reporting a recovered case.

It has not be in GA long enough to have someone in serious enough to require diagnosis/treatment to have made it through the infection.
I agree there may be a couple hundred thousand infections that were mild enough to not cause issues or be completely asymptomatic. Those are unknown and cannot be included in the calculations so we can only get estimate from those at least reasonably serious. This would make the numbers down into the under 1% rate like the general flu numbers.
Either way, I think this whole thing is at least a half a bucket bigger than the general numbers being publicized.

The thing is we really don't know how long it's been here. We could have had thousands with mild cases, and people thought it was the flu and recovered, never giving it a second thought. Now they think this virus started in November who knows when it really started. I was first reported in December. Plenty of people died from the flu and pneumonia this flu season was it really Covid-19?

The FDA has approved HydroxyChloroquine for patients that are in a hospital. That seems strange. Why not everyone? Because it is also used to treat Lupus and if everyone lined up at their Dr. office for a prescription, Lupus patients would get short sheeted. It seems the Chinese have reported that there were 50 Lupus patients in Wuhan and not one of them got the virus......... So taking HydroxyChloroquine prevents getting the virus. Currently there is not enough to go around.... It is being worked on...

Georgia Gov. Kemp ordering all schools to remain closed the rest of the school year.
Also he will sign an order tomorrow for a statewide shelter in place order to give time to get ready. He urged calm and not hoarding more supplies.

My sister was just admitted to the hospital with bilateral pneumonia and they gave her another coronavirus test but won't know anything for 3-8 days. She told me a couple of days ago that a couple of people had disappeared from her nursing home overnight and was worried it was coronavirus.

I'm not sure about the taking them home thing because it happened in the middle of the nigh. The thing is everyone is there because they can no longer take care of themselves. I'm not sure what to think with any luck it's just regular pneumonia and she won't pick up anything while she's in the hospital.

It wasn’t the clearest photo – more Sasquatch sighting than mayor out on the town – but the silhouettes were easily recognizable: New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and his wife Chirlane McCray were photographed taking a walk in Prospect Park on Saturday afternoon, in the midst of a coronavirus pandemic.
City Hall press secretary Freddi Goldstein defended the stroll to City & State, saying that de Blasio and McCray were doing what they encourage all New Yorkers to do: “get out and exercise to keep your spirit, just do it safely and appropriately distance.”
Of course “distance” was the issue at hand – not the six-foot separation that all Americans are being asked to comply with to slow the spread of coronavirus, but rather the 11-mile drive between de Blasio’s Upper East Side home in Gracie Mansion and Prospect Park, in the center of Brooklyn. That, when Central Park – a larger, rather famous, park designed by the same two men as Prospect Park – is merely one mile from de Blasio’s front gate. That front gate, it’s worth noting, lies within the confines of the 15-acre Carl Schurz Park which has walking paths of its own, including a promenade along the East River.
Most New Yorkers, who do not have a chauffeured SUV to transport them at public expense, must currently forgo trips to far-away parks they may happen to prefer, since they have been advised by the city and state governments to “stay home to stop the spread of coronavirus” and to “stay at home as much as possible.” In fact, even those who could afford to take a taxi have been advised not to do so unless necessary by public health professionals who say everyone should minimize in-person contact with others. As NPR reported on March 17, “The CDC is telling people to avoid discretionary travel … even if you're planning to drive to your destination, the whole goal of this 15-day hunkering down period is to keep your germs to yourself so we slow the spread of the virus – a concept known as flattening the curve. That means minimizing contact with others outside your immediate household.”
City Hall said that while de Blasio was walking in Prospect Park he personally broke up groups of people that he felt were congregating too closely – a job he could have dispatched the NYPD to do and he himself could just as easily have done in one of the parks walking distance from his home. That’s why his jaunt drew jeers on Twitter from some New Yorkers who noted that taking an unnecessarily long trip in the close confines of a car with his security detail was an example of what his own administration is urging people not to do. De Blasio wasn’t breaking any laws or regulations, but he wasn’t modeling good behavior either.
Of course, this isn't the first time de Blasio has failed to lead by example or not taken the pandemic as seriously as public health experts say is necessary to limit the outbreak's severity and save lives. During a time when his fellow executive Gov. Andrew Cuomo has been receiving widespread – though not universal – praise for his response to the outbreak of COVID-19, de Blasio seems to only be receiving criticism for his missteps. Here’s a guide to some of the most noteworthy ones.
De Blasio staffers threaten to resign
The mayor moved so slowly in responding to coronavirus, against the guidance of his top health officials, that some of them threatened to resign, according to reports on March 16 from The New York Times and the Daily News. De Blasio denied that anybody said they would resign, but seemed to admit to tensions, saying “people have had serious conversations,” but sources told the Daily News there major disagreements over the mayor’s “slow pace to adapt to information about how quickly (the disease) was advancing.”

Mere hours before the state’s mandate that all gyms close on March 16 in order to help stop the spread of the new coronavirus, de Blasio took part in his near-daily ritual of an 11-mile drive to the Prospect Park YMCA for a workout.
De Blasio tells people to go to bars
By the afternoon of Sunday, March 15, it was quite clear that strict regulations on gathering at bars and restaurants were soon to come. A 50% capacity reduction was already in place, but compliance seemed inconsistent, and enforcement, sporadic to non-existent. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was just one of the numerous New Yorkers calling for more social separation that weekend. But instead of encouraging people to stay at home, de Blasio told New Yorkers to go for one last drink. “If you love your neighborhood bar, go there now,” he said at a press conference, “because we don’t know what the future holds.”
De Blasio tries to avoid closing schools
By Friday, March 13, at least five other states less affected by coronavirus had already shut down their schools in order to slow the spread of the COVID-19, as well as Los Angeles and San Diego, two of the largest school districts in the country. But de Blasio wasn’t ready to make changes yet, even though about one-third of New York City public school students were absent that day. Two days later, on Sunday the 15th, after Cuomo announced city schools would be closed starting the next day, de Blasio confirmed the news.
De Blasio tries to avoid shutting down Broadway
New York City’s live theater industry shutdown for at least a month on Thursday, March 12, a day before the ban on gatherings of 500 or more people was set to go into effect. But that morning, de Blasio was still holding out hope that a different decision could be reached.
"I don’t want to see Broadway go dark, if we can avoid it,” he told CNN that morning. “I want to see if we can strike some kind of balance.”
De Blasio gives a movie recommendation
The mayor isn’t necessarily known for his artistic taste, but he was eager to share a movie recommendation the night of Mon. March 2, the day that New York City had its first confirmed case of coronavirus. “Since I’m encouraging New Yorkers to go on with your lives + get out on the town despite Coronavirus, I thought I would offer some suggestions,” de Blasio tweeted. “Here’s the first: thru Thurs 3/5 go see ‘The Traitor”’@FilmLinc. If “The Wire” was a true story + set in Italy, it would be this film.”
Weeks later, on Sun. March 29, de Blasio didn’t seem eager to talk about movie recommendations with CNN’s Jake Tapper. Was your message telling New Yorkers to go about their lives “at least in part to blame for how rapidly the virus has spread across the city?” Tapper asked the mayor.
“We should not be focusing, in my view, on anything looking back on any level of government right now,” de Blasio replied. “This is just about how we save lives going forward.”

N.Y. numbers went way up today, guess they spoke too soon. A friend of mine here is town has a nineteen year old son who just tested positive. She has been trying to get her family tested for the past three weeks, maybe more. They have actual coughs like one would have with a cold or other illness, not the dry cough, so there goes that theory. The only constant about this virus, is that there is none...

New York isn't counting people who die at home. They say an extra 180 or so are dying at home but unless have already been tested they won't be counted.

A doctor said on radio that many deaths are being reported as COVID-19 related without a test in hard hit areas like NYC. Some could be regular flu or lung disease, but with so many dying at hospitals, they just mark them as coronus virus-related and move on. So the ones unreported could be covered by misreports.

Fox had an article about the Covid related deaths. Basically, the order is that if they had Covid and died, it gets attributed to Covid - even if it was the pneumonia or heart failure that they eventually died from.

Makes sense that they would extend it here. My granddaughter, in Fort Collins,CO. called last night to say she had a fever and sore throat. Today her temp was normal. I had to remind her that her normal (and mine) is 97.6, and to keep that in mind. So I told her to take all the stuff that I had sent her when this thing started, which she should already be doing.
Anyone hear how long the S.I.P. was extended for? We will be in until it is much safer than it is now anyway... Feel so sorry for people who are still working and need to be there....want to be there... Hang in there, everyone!

One other thing my b-i-l hasn't been able to see his doctor so his Humana nurse called to check up on him today. She asked if they had enough food and offered to send them 2 weeks worth for FREE. Is anyone outside of the Metro Atlanta area noticing all the freezers are sold out? My mother-in-law told me their freezer died and they can't buy a new one. Everyone is sold out! I finally found one that could be delivered on May 2nd, most have a delivery date of June or July with a few not coming in until August. Do you think people will remember this down the road when the things being made in the USA are more expensive and all they want is more cheap junk that doesn't last.
Wow, I didn't realize how many people don't even use freezers to stock up on frozen foods. I remember when my dad bought our first big freezer and a half a side of beef to fill it. We have never been without one since.

I am going to step out on a limb here. If you don't own a freezer then you are most likely not a prepper. That said preppers have a saying 2 is one. Meaning if you want to have a freezer you better have two in case one quits.. That is just basic prepping for the beginner.

Even if you have two freezers or more, better have lots of canning jars, because if the next S.H.T.F. comes along and the power goes down, or your freezer goes out, you better have a good canning book, or a long memory, so you can come up with a variety of ways to put up all that freezer food.
Some good ones to have on hand: Complete Book of Home preserving, Ball. The Preppers canning guide, Luther. Canning full circle, From garden to Jar, to table, Devereaux. Tess Pennington is another good source. She is a prepper.
Diane Devereaux (the canning diva), is a chef/prepper. These sources help the home canner to experience canning other than stuffing something in a jar. If you cook, then you will be able to tell if you would enjoy these recipes or not. I personally love the freedom of variety. I feel like Thoreau, who made one pencil, looked at it, decided it was perfect and never made another one. In canning, I like to move on and try the next thing. There are recipes worth repeating, though....for sure!

The Ball Blue Book is a good place to start. Don't forget So Easy to Preserve you can get it through you county extension service. I also like to keep a canning diary. I write the name of the recipe and which book (if needed), how much I started with and how many jars I ended with. When using the pressure canner I like write down the stove settings.

I use my mother's old canner (1950's version) and we have a Ball blue book along with others. Been canning for 40 years. I like to use canning jars to store pasta, rice and beans vacuum sealed. That way come SHTF I should have plenty of jars to use. Jelly jars are short now as I tend to loose a jar every time I give away a jar of jelly. I took a picture of some new spares with extra lids & rings in the containers. A couple years ago a store we shop at had all lids & rings on sale at give away prices. We bought them out.

I also use them to dry can a supply of different crackers, homemade dried soup mixes, beans, rice, dehydrated apple rings, mushrooms, onions carrots...anything really, that you like to dehydrate. One thing I used this week was an "everything jar". When I dehydrate, if I have a little broccoli, or whatever might be good in a soup mix, I put it on the last layer if there is extra room. Then, I throw it in the jar. About every month, I end up with a quart of mixed dehydrated goodies, including different herbs to throw into a pot of soup. One thing that surprised me, the first time I did it, was how much I enjoyed dehydrated green beans in this type of jar...who knew??? :o

On the morning news (local) they said we should expect outbreaks all summer, and perhaps a major outbreak this fall. Also stated this could go on for two years. Of course these are only guesses...no one really knows. If the above is true, it will come out...

Some new developments for children who previously had covid - whether tested positive while sick or tested positive for covid antibodies after coming down with a new mysterious illness similar to Kawasaki syndrome. Some need ventilators and almost all require blood pressure support (I'm assuming to lower because inflammation of blood vessels causes high bp). Fever, rash, vomiting/diarrhea, abdominal pain. First reported in Europe, now 15 children in New York. Public health are now looking to see if there are other children in other areas with it.

Oh dear, that was the only blessing to this curse. We were under the impression that most children, would escape this one. My son's friend lost a five year old girl, to the flu this winter. They took her to the hospital the day after she first showed symptoms. Two of our friends lost good friends this week. All were "seniors", but in good health. One friend lost two friends in a week, that are brothers.

Abigayle, we just decided to add a cow to the farm after my dad told MrBeans that my grandpa raised 3 every year on half the size yard that the goats are currently on. ... In the middle of Atlanta on North Avenue (the projects back in the day). Two went in the freezer each fall while one was fed through the winter for milk.

It's called "Plandemic" and it's primarily of a researcher that claims she was railroaded years ago by Fauci and others because she was going to expose that they were prolonging illnesses such as HIV/AIDS in order to maximize profits.

And people are now claiming if you research HER, that she was dismissed from the university she was working in for irregularities (my word, I can't recall if it was falsifying data or improper record keeping), and has other issues. In other words, her credibility is in question......but then everything about the information on this disease is subject to 'someone' claiming to have conflicting data, so who the heck knows?

You know how your gut feeling leads you .... Well I think there is a mixture of truth and embellishment along with some out right lies in this.
Lots of people like to point out how a person cannot be jailed and searched as she describes because of constitutional rights. While in theory this is correct, I studied way too many cases getting my forensics degree to know, this can, has, and does happen way more than the general public has a clue. So to that point, she very well could be telling the truth.
However, there are tons of conspiracy theory videos making the rounds. Few have been silenced outright. What is it about some videos that gets them completely censored while others (that seem plausible, not clearly crackpot theories) are allowed to live on without a second glance?
Just my thoughts for this morning.

I wondered from the state, that if this is some virus, just like the others that have passed through, year after year, why all the fuss? why all the preps?
I have to say, I thought it was being played down a little too much, with what we were seeing in China and felt we should have closed our boarders even sooner. With that major outbreak in Northern Italy and seeing the spread go like wildfire, even after they shut down that area. Warning bells should have been sounding much louder. There may very well be people out there that did not want this to get out.
So now we have people wanting to control of food chain, the virus and killer hornets coming to get our bees.... To top that all off, it is cold and raining here!!! AND our new rooster is looking at the hens like they are at a family reunion....

Country Singer, I was ten at the time and lived in Milwaukee. My grandmother died that year, at age 62. I was told it was her heart. During that time, I didn't really hear about any flu going around. We went to school and anywhere else we wanted to go, without question.
One big difference here, is that we were told that if we didn't stay home....A. we would die (over age 65). B. we would tax the system by using medical equipment, a bed and a ventilator that someone else also would need at the same time. This shelter in place, is as much in place out fear of what our our defiance of the order would inflict on others. I know at our age, we would stay home, do our best and let younger people have a shot at getting better.

The other difference is that both political parties wanted what was best for America and her people. Today some politicians would cut the throats of the opposition if they could get away with it.

Good article, with a lot of truth. It depends which side of the fence you stand on. While we are at risk, I want people who can, and want to get out, to do so. Our whole economic system is at stake. Our whole world has changed, in a matter of months. I don't want people to throw caution to the wind. People of all ages are worth saving.

That won't fly here, either. Both are common, fairly inexpensive drugs. It would be better to spend billions on a new vaccine. (tongue now removed from cheek, lol)
