As of this writing, anyway, and that's on a slow boat from China shipping, but that's a UV-82 for the price of a UV5R - and you can get one on Prime for about $31. Of course Amazon pricing is volatile and can change minute to minute, but literally yesterday, none of these were under $40, so it might be a long term price drop.
This, honestly, it's not cool to say, but it's my favorite HT right now, and I have a $600+ Icom. When it comes time to do serious work with an HT, this is what I grab. I use it for races, parades, events, etc, with a remote handset. It's still just as hard to program as any Chinese radio, but I do software programming anyway. It's more rugged, has a better keypad, and a better form factor than the UV5R. It has the same power rating, but I know for a fact that I've hit things with this that the 5R wouldn't hit.
