Old Farmer's Almanac FREE online gardening guides
« on: February 19, 2021, 12:25:35 PM »
I know a lot of group members are experienced gardeners, but here are some FREE guides for vegetable gardening on Old Farmer's Almanac's website.  You might pick up a tip or two or get inspired to try growing something new (artichokes or asparagus anyone?)  They also have garden layouts, seed companies' sites (with more in the comments at the bottom submitted by readers), and a planting calendar you plug your zip code into, and it gives you the pertinent dates for each kind of vegetable.

Yesterday I planted Asparagus seed for a new bed in region 2.   Each seed needs to be planted in it;s own cup.  Put potting soil in the cup and compress leaving 2" of open space on top.  Soak your seed for 2 hours.  Put one seed in each cup, cover with potting soil and generously water.  Keep damp during the 30 day germination period.  Transplant into it's permanent location  about June.  It is now February.  Once planted, do not move.

We plan on making a new Asparagus bed at out Region 2 campsite this Summer.
