Ports, is anyone worried about this?
« on: September 28, 2024, 06:14:32 PM »
The US port workers on the east and gulf coast are planning a strike for October 1st. That means nothing is going out or coming in. Has anyone even heard about this? It doesn't seem to be making the news.

I've heard it's not all of them. So if it does indeed happen then it will be similar to 2020 in terms of availability and price increases.

Gina Raimondo, the Biden/Harris commerce secretary, was recently asked on CNBC about the impending port worker strike and declared that she has not been focused on that. What exactly does this woman do all day, other than campaign for Kamala Harris?

It seems as if the government wants as much confusion and strife as is possible before the election so that they can declare marshal law.  Then suspend the election and the constitution.  Hold On !

One interesting thought on this strike:

People are only talking about stuff coming in and other than 60-70% of our medicines, most is cheap junk.  Raw materials for what little manufacturing could be an issue as well.

Let’s think in a different direction, exports.  The US exports a lot of agricultural products.  This includes a lot of pork, chicken and beef.  I can see a situation that if this goes on for any length of time we could have a glut of meat and domestic prices could tumble.  If this happens it may be good for consumers in the short term but devastating for the livelihood and profit margins for farmers.  This will be something to follow…
Give a man a fish and feed him a day teach him how to fish and you have a friend for life.

Yes,  Coming in.  As we were finishing up breakfast this morning with a banana, the wife said that we might as well get used to there being no bananas in the grocery store soon.  So if you like bananas you might want to pick some up today.
We could switch from bananas to apples for our fruit.  We will have to grt some apples on our next trip up.
