Georgia / SEPN Georgia Region 6 Meeting For August 2024
« Last post by VoodooMD on Today at 04:00:36 AM »
Hello to all SEPN Georgia Members and Georgia Region 6 Members!

Hope that all are doing well and continuing to get your "GAME ON" as far as your "preps" for you and your family go! QUITE a lot has and is still happening and changing all around us now, so please keep your heads on a swivel!

The August 24th meeting here for Region 6 on the topic of Various Types of Cooking Stoves/Devices/Methods for Use in GRID-DOWN Situations/Scenarios proved to be another HUGE SUCCESS of a meeting!!!

This meeting session was very well-attended and participation from the presenters and attendees was OVER THE TOP! Lots of various cooking devices were displayed and explained at length in the "show and tell" part of it. There were LOTS of great Q&A's about various devices and methods in the discussion afterwards! 😊

After attending this meeting, I must say that off-grid cooking devices have changed QUITE a lot since I was a Boy Scout many, many moons ago! I wonder what my old Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster would think and say if they were there to attend and see all of it! LOL!

MANY THANKS go out to all who brought various items for this session! We are one GREAT GROUP of folks and I can't thank you enough for what you all do to make it happen for us here at USS and in the Region 6 area!

As I have mentioned in many past posts concerning the Georgia Region 6 monthly meetings, we are so very BLESSED to have such GREAT active members and participants. Our members are an “exceptional wealth of knowledge” and are “true experts” on such a very wide variety of preparedness topics – BAR NONE!

We all have been TRULY BLESSED to have such a WONDERFUL place here at Uncle Sam’s Surplus to hold our monthly meetings! The staff at USS have always provided EXCELLENT SUPPORT in the past for our SEPN Georgia Region 6 meetings. They have ALWAYS gone “above and beyond the call of duty” to assist us in any way concerning our meeting needs with any equipment or class presentation items in their stock for our use! They are without a doubt #1 in customer service!

Much thanks go out again to Alex, Shelby, Nick, and all of the USS crew for your continued support of us and our monthly meetings there! YOU ALL ROCK!

As for the September 28th presentation topic for us here in Region 6, we are going to "change it up a bit" from past meeting styles. At the August 24th meeting ending, a great majority of the attendees voiced a very STRONG desire to learn more about radio communications, especially the Baofeng UV-5R / FRS and various attachments and devices. We also discussed having a "Barter/Trade/Buy/Sell/Swap" event in this meeting along with many other great ideas and suggestions!

And as luck would have it, we have several ham radio operators in our group here in Region 6 who have various types of licenses; one being a former Search & Rescue instructor who most graciously agreed to lead this special radio training! We as a group decided that in order to discuss at length and to do a good "hands-on" training, we needed much more time to devote to it beyond our monthly scheduled meeting date/time.

So, with hat in hand, I approached the USS management staff with our request for additional meeting time and desire for more training with communications at the USS shop----and USS CAME TO THE RESCUE!!!

Without any hesitation, USS management and staff enthusiastically agreed to open up the lounge area to us for meetings and trainings ANY time during their scheduled hours of operation on ANY Saturday of the month from open of business to close of business!

Needless to say, we took them up on the offer and we all met up again on September 7th for communications training there! We even made it a pot luck luncheon event and included the employees and management staff as well to show our great appreciation to them. As I said in past postings, we here in Region 6 have some OUTSTANDING COOKS and CHEFS and we all like to get together and EAT!  ;)

Now, with this additional time to meet and "train" at USS, we will be DEFINITELY be taking advantage of this for any future subjects and endeavors we may decide to touch on as far as "prepping" goes!

Watch us here in Region 6 to keep up with all future happenings!!!

Take care all and God Bless!!

KEEP ON PREPPING!!!

Rhett / Voodoo MD

Quick introduction for those of you who don't know me or haven't met me in the past. I'm a long-time paramedic. I have been teaching wilderness medicine for a while as well. I have a lot of knowledge and love to teach, I also love learning new things, tips and tricks I never thought of. I'll be catching up on all the posts over the next few days. Please feel free to say hello or throw up any questions you haven't had answered or just things you wonder about if the worst happens. I'll be glad to try to help, if I don't know it I'll definitely research it, so we all know!

Heya, I'm reading a lot of posts today and thought I would drop some info on ya's.  I'm going to put a few links up that you all might find useful, i had all of this on the old site but I can't get to it anymore, so I had to look them up again.

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=suture+practice+kit&adgrpid=1341404752735242&hvadid=83838035959724&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=75929&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvtargid=kwd-83838147680943%3Aloc-190&hydadcr=21855_13321998&msclkid=1c906eed929f1ec283e408351670c971&tag=mh0b-20&ref=pd_sl_98kgqrwv6k_e

This is something I've used for a while. we use them at work to practice. I keep diff kinds in my bags. You can see boxes of diff sizes of sutures on this page as well.

This is the kind of stapler we use for quick wound stapling. I can't put a pic up of the one we use at work for obvious reasons, but this is the closest I've found on amazon.

These are also a good idea to have with you, depending on the size of your first aid addition I mean.

Hello Region 9, Medic72 here. Ive been around since the old days. I've taken a break from the websites and forums for a while. In 2017 I bought land in Tattnall County on a river. I moved from Mcintosh county in region 12. I was the Region 12 Leader. I still live the prepping lifestyle everyday. Current in all of the goings on in the world. Looking forward to getting back together with everyone and continuing the learning and teaching.
