Title: How did you fair last night?
Post by: tlwagg on April 13, 2020, 12:07:19 PM
Some areas were hit hard last night with tornadoes touching down in several places in Georgia and  other states.Let us know if you had any damage. Here in North Fulton it looks like we missed the worst of it.

We had some wind and rain 3AM to 4:30AM.  Power was out from 3AM to 5 AM.  Walked around after daylight and do not have any trees down.  One of my gardens got washed good.

Did well. Thunder woke me up a few times. Weather radio a few more. Other than that all is well and looks like any aftermath of a regular rainstorm here. Up the road a bit some friends are without power. For the first time we did not lose power during any type of storm.

I am fine here, I didn't even get much rain. But I need to recheck the county code for my weather radio. That darn thing was going off literally every 15 min from midnight till 3 am. I am exhausted from being up all night. Watched channel 2 weather coverage and was so scared for folks in the Thomaston area. Hope everyone checks in just so we know they are ok.

Ok in southern Floyd, lost power for about 2 hrs when the 1st band came through.  That was due to trees I'm sure since the tornado in that group was up near Trion, maybe around 10pm.  I had TWC on until the 2nd band passed through and finally got to sleep about 1:30am.

Lots of usnea to collect off of the small branches that came down but no damage here.

Didn't lose power or anything else for that matter. No trees uprooted no roofs ripped off. The only thing that happened here is that I lost cell phone usage. No signal, nada, nothing, zilch, zero! I had to go to Woodbury to Ingles and that's where I got a signal enough to use the phone and then when I went to Talbotton and got a signal. Go figure.

We got hit pretty bad in SE TN.

I am doing fine, thank God. No damage to my house. But there is a TON of damage not far from me. At least one school destroyed, businesses, churches, and houses. A couple people died too :-(

We all made it safely. Still no power here in the cove, probably going to be some time. There are still lines down as of 2 hrs ago and no crews out this way. Massive flooding here is a picture before it rose another 6” and became impassable.

Tornados hit southwest of us in Fort Oglethorpe and Northeast of us in East Brainerd area of Chattanooga. Skipped, almost literally, right over us.  We only had a couple of power flickers, no damage.

God was gracious once again!

I didn't want to start a second post but how are all our friends in southern half of the state. The storms weren't as bad as they thought north of Atlanta.

Great in Spalding CO. but gardens are sure muddy.  All the wind lately has not been kind to them, but what doesn't kill you makes you strong!  Happy Monday....It is Monday, isn't it?

The last of the latest storm went thru here about 1AM.  At 1A> my bedroom lit up bright white and a crash of thunder was right overhead.  I have been outside this morning and do not see any damage.

We lost power for a couple of hours, but no big deal.

During the rain yesterday, I noticed water getting into the “basement” level. I put on my rain jacket, went outside and discovered the French drain on the side of the house was blocked. Additionally, the rain had washed sand and debris against the side of the house causing water to pool and not drain. I made quick work of getting that fixed.

This morning I went out to inspect a few things and found the lake to be half full in spite of there being no gates whatsoever in the far spillway. The entire area behind the dam is flooded since the creek just isn’t big enough to handle all the water. The water level is high enough that it is above the fill next to the house and is up against the base of the house. We had already planned on building up the area another 18 or so inches. I guess that project will have to be a priority now.

We’ve been sandbagging the dam in order to repair years of erosion. The latest area where we got sandbags placed did not have full backfill up to the top which apparently caused a big problem. The water rushing down the dam face displaced the whole section and it will have to be taken completely apart and rebuilt. That’s a weeks worth of work down the tube.

We also had some bad erosion in our driveway.

I don’t know why my pictures always post sideways. They are right side up when I post them.

I am fine in my area, just standing water in low spots.

Benny, you lake looks really beautiful, right up till you share the pictures of the water up to the house.  So sorry you did all that work in vane!
