You can use the same tricks to build it into 2x4's. If you have a basement with exposed 2x4's, consider building a drawer into one and nailing it next to another exposed 2x4. When it comes to inside the house hides there are so many, it could be its own topic. :)

This is an okay idea, but if you plan on using them inside the house in a fireplace, I would suggest staying away from treated wood. If your outside or use a sealed stove then it would be okay to use treated lumber sawdust.
