It's that time again. Our 2017 kick off event, the "Annual Spring Camp Out". As 2016 is almost over it's time to start planning our 2017 events starting with the Spring Camp Out. We had to make a minor change for 2017 since the NRA convention is going on last week in April, so we have pushed the date back to the 1st weekend in May. It will be located at Clybel Wildlife Management Area (WMA) camping area. Right next to:
Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center
543 Elliott Trail
Mansfield, Ga. 30055
(770) 784-3059
http://georgiawildlife.com/CharlieElliott
As always we are looking for you thoughts, ideas, and concerns if any on this event. So please post them on this thread and let us know. We will continue to make plans and post them as the time gets closer. Looking forward to hearing from everyone.
Happy New Year...

I'm guessing this is May 6 and 7? My bro's wedding is Saturday but I may be able to come Sunday.
-
There will be people there, like me as early as Thursday afternoon. Most pack out by Sunday afternoon. If you can please stop by and say hi, alot of folks stop in for a day trip. Hope to see you there.
-
Looking forward to it! thanks for posting.
ChristianJ, thanks for pointing out the dates. stvr, I took the liberty of adding them to the post title.
When I'm less lazy, I'll replace the outdated Christmas party info in the main page header ;)

Cool. Will a lot of people be there Friday? I may take off work and come for the day then.
-
It's tough to tell - most of the core campers will be there - a lot of the day trippers only come on Saturday.
Getting RSVPs out of preppers is like herding the proverbial cats, so the turnout is always a surprise.

Trust me, I know!
I will probably take the day off anyway, I love creating 3 day weekends when I can. Plus my brother is getting married that weekend so I may need to anyway.
-
Friday afternoon should have a fair amount of people there. Lilburner is correct, RSVP are sometimes hard to get.
-
I will be arriving Thursday. Probably mid-moring
-
Great to hear, will see you then.
-
Bump.
Mostly to remind myself to fix the header to get the Christmas party out of it and put the campout in. Believe it or not, doing that header is one of the most esoteric things I do, It's all hand-coded html,
-
I think I can make the camp out now.
Lilburner, I can whip something up for the home page and send it over to you. Let me know if it's straight html or if I have to use the code for the boards.
-
Good to hear, thanks... Sure there are others and it will be here sooner than you think, so lets start updating so we can get everything put together...
-
I am going to try to make that a day trip on Saturday. Providing my ankle has healed enough after having surgery to walk good.
-
Be there. Walk bad. No one will make fun of you. Where you can see or hear it anyway.
Nemo ;)
-
Aint worried about a limp. If I can I will, besides don't care what other folks say...........
-
Is this the same spot where it rained the entire time and the tree fell in the middle of the night and it sounded like an elephant was running toward the campers? Even the Boy Scouts were drenched?
-
Yes it is
-
I'm looking forward to making it to a spring campout....made a few of the fall ones.... Enjoyed every moment of them.
-
Great news, looking forward to see you again...
-
I would really like to make it to a Spring Campout..... Havent done that one yet...so I'm looking forward tot he experience!!!.....P.s. .... going to try and make my weekend as long as I can!
-
Had an idea I floated to a few people - thought it was worth getting some feedback.
I don't know if anyone's like me, but sometimes I'm curious about some of the survival food I have, but don't want to open something like a #10 can just to taste it.
How about a survival food pot luck? Everyone pop something open, prepare it, and we taste test a large variety while only spoiling one of our own preps.
What do y'all think?
-
Great idea! But also probably a good idea to coordinate here. Bad idea for everyone to be tasting only others gravy or onions

Silent auction items!
If you're not familiar, we usually have a silent auction consisting of items that attendees donate. It helps pay for the website and any incidentals and whatnot.
We have a couple good ones so far this year. what can you bring? Let us know or surprise us either way! All donations are appreciated.
One is a Mr Heater Portable Buddy indoor propane heater. New in the box.

The other is a Kabar Fixed Blade 8-1/2" "Zombie Killer Death Dagger" in a custom sheath by our very own Farside. It's New inthe box, includes the original sheath, a smaller companion knife, and anterchangeable black/green handles. Mine is one of my favorite fixed blade knives.

Survival Food pot luck!
Looks like this is a go. I've never been one to plan out a pot luck, but if someone wants to do that, they're welcome to take charge. Conversely, people could say what they're doing and give less odds of someone doing the same thing.
Any preferences as to when? I'm sure it's plenty for dinner, but the advantage of doing it as a Saturday lunch would be the most people can participate.
-
Volunteers for classes, demonstrations, hands on displays?
We're usually more on top of this by now, but most of the people who put in the work on it have been dealing with everything from surgeries to new BOLs and are kind of worked/planned out. Of course the main focus will be the fellowship and bonding and learning from each other, but it would nice to have some specific events as learning experiences.
Have any skills, toys, experiences you want to share?
I've been a big proponent lately of airguns as preps. One thing I can do is set up an impromptu range and we can try them out right in camp informally without having to go to the range. There's a big berm going up the side that would lend itself perfectly.
What would be awesome is if someone would do the same thing for archery. I've got a bow and a crossbow both I've never fired.
Any other ideas?
-
okay we are a week out - who is coming???
-
Still planning on it.
-
I hope to drive over for Saturday; no one to help me watch Mother or tend the chickens so I could camp. :(
Ravenwood
-
I will not make it as planned....Kids and grandkids coming in that weekend.
-
I'm planning on it. Loading the camper this weekend.
-
Looks like we won't be able to make it. Hubby drew pager duty that weekend and can't switch.
-
Dang, we missed you at the fall one too.
-
We will still be there. Looking forward to it!!!
-
Will be a day tripper on Saturday.
Will be bringing herbs for give-away.
-
Sure wish I could make it. Life is not being cooperative on some things.
Y'all think of me. With kudos or curses as you deem proper

I'll be there. It'll be a good time to try out the gear in my bag.
-
I'll have 6 each of spearmint, peppermint and oregano.
-
Somebody needs to send me good directions to the camping spot when I get to Charlie Elliot. I hate that I can't camp for the weekend but will be there Saturday am. Should be a nice cool weekend you lucky folks! I have a few Echinachea plants if anyone wants one.

I do

Here's the exact spot.
https://goo.gl/maps/Fnnz4w33RD52
I'll put the banner up by the main road {where the dotted line starts}.
-
I was going to try to come for just Friday, as my brother's wedding is this weekend, but unfortunately I just have too much going on and am going to have to sit this one out.
-
Oh THANK YOU, Lilburner, I thought it was the previous road! The WMA maps don't show the campground (that I could find).
-
Who all am I supposed to be bringing stuff to?
Right now I've got
Starlady 10 buckets
Benny 2 tarps
Ravenwood 3 solar panels and an escape ladder.
Anything else?

No, that list looks right.

Farmlife: I'm so excited to get those buckets!
LOL!
-
Do I turn in on a road where you will place the banner? Thanks.

Tipigirl and I may be able to come down for a day trip.

As of right now, I am still planning on heading up today, but am having second thoughts since it's supposed to be raining all day. Is anyone else planning on going today? If so, I'll definitely head on out around lunch. I'm looking forward to a great weekend.
-
I'll be leaving about 10:30-11:00 but it will take me over 3 hrs to get there, assuming there's no traffic issues. PLEASE let me know if you change your mind, I don't want to stay out there by myself, I can stop at a Love's or Pilot for overnight. I think you and I were the only ones coming in today. Thanks.
-
I'll be headed out around 1200 or 1300 today
-
we are almost there and Stvr is coming today
-
I hope to be leaving in about an hour
-
My power just went out, involving an explosion down the street. And I can't leave while the power is out (to make sure stuff is turned off).
So...
-
Do I turn in on a road where you will place the banner? Thanks.
Ravenwood
Where I'm planning on putting the banner is where you leave the road (Murder something road) and turn off for camping.
-
Ugh! Good thing I didn't leave! GA Power thought I was restored and I'm not.
Not much time left to get down there and set up. Not sure I'll make it.
-
I'll be heading in tomorrow morning. It will be good to see everyone again.
-
Excited about coming since I missed the fall one. Lilbrner - I hope you make it! Looking forward to seeing everyone again and meeting any newbies.
-
Great to see everyone again. We played the card game "Conflicted" - very interesting! Talk about some weird scenarios.
Carrot- we missed you! Ravenwood- missed you too. Hope you get better soon.
-
Home safe an hr ago, fridge unpacked, lunch made, feet up with the Talladega race on!
Great weekend, even though it poured on setup day (Thursday). It spit a bit on Friday but Saturday and Sunday were gorgeous. This was the lowest attendance of any of the campouts I've been to, but hey, quality counts! Only 6 camping but it was so good to catch up with Lilburner, stvr, Florida44, Chief, CaveDiverBob & TippiGirl, Farside, Day8, Wabbit, CountrySinger (special thanks for fixing it so I could listen to the Derby!) and finally have a chance to chat for more than 2 minutes with BennyMG1 and his SO! We missed the no-shows, hope everyone is feeling better. Nice to meet engineer3D - hope you'll come back.
Herbs and eggs were giveaways, good auction items and we played Conflicted twice - it's that good. It makes you think and you get to hear ideas and opinions from other people - I pretty much know how I want to react in most situations that I've thought about but there were lots of new situations brought up and new points to think about on the old ones.
Me & Harley thoroughly enjoyed the long weekend away from the Farm! It was a great job getting things organized and set up, thanks to those who did so.
Hoping stvr and Lilburner get everything home safe - please check in.
-
Had a great time and good to see everyone who came!
It was bookended by a little weirdness, though, for me. I got a late start because the power went out, Georgia Power thought they fixed it, then had to come back out. Somewhere in there I had to manually open my garage door. What I hadn't considered that it was hanging lower then normal. Once the power came back on I was in a hurry and went through there full speed and brained myself on the door. I took a tumble and lost consciousness for a moment, but collected myself just in time to see the garage door fall the rest of the way, upon which it latched, locking me out of the house.
Even after all that, I got there with enough daylight to get the trailer set up enough to sleep.
Then today when I went to leave, I heard a faint little clicking noise. I popped off my left rear center cap and there were two sheared lugs in there and one missing completely! So my whole wheel was only held on by three lugs. So the rest of my day was quite the adventure. Thanks to stvr for going out of his way to help!
I just can't imagine if I'd had my window up or my radio on or something and had missed that clicking.
-
I had company show up and I couldn't get out >.<
Hopefully I can make the last one.
-
The "last" one? I hope this isn't some sort of foretelling of the apocalypse!
I hope the next one isn't the last one, but I look forward to seeing you there!
-
Got my herbs from the campout and the R2 meeting underway. Peppermint in red pots and spearmint in green pots. The Greek oregano is the black. I'm going to keep them at my house for a while until they're good and robust and then transplant them up at the BOL.
Thanks to the Starlady and Wabbit for sharing!

They're looking good! And since they've been moved twice in the past week, keeping them in the pots for several weeks is an excellent idea. They don't need to be wet all the time but remember pots dry out fast. Good luck, I'm excited for you!

Here's the link to the hand made tools I was talking about around the campfire:
For some reason, I find the videos rather soothing. (http://www.northmen.com/en/gallery/video)
