Weather Alert for young grapes

If you will be down below 22 degrees in the next few days, which most of us will.... You need to put about a foot of soil around the base of your young grape vines.  This includes up to a year old.  Like we don't have enough to do!  I am dumping used soil from my large plants around each one
R.W. is this true for year old blueberries as well or will just leaves work?  I have lots of used chicken bedding.

I really do not know.  I put pine straw and leaves around my blueberries:
1.  To get rid of them (pine straw & leaves)
2.  To lower the Ph of the soil as the rot

Blue berries survive up in the mountains so I don't think cold is a problem.  I will find out soon as I plan to move a truck load to the mountains this Spring.  I would like to have blue berries in August also.  Mine are done here last week in July.

PS:  I need to take that back.  Usually by July I don't want to see any more blue berries.
