This may be a little out there, but just suppose this:
We all know that the democrats (liberal socialist) in power really don’t “care” about the migrants coming across the border. They are basically encouraging the mass migration for reasons other than being great humanitarians. They know, as the number of illegal migrants increase exponentially on a daily basis, the general public as a whole will grow weary and then intolerant of all the illegals. We are already seeing this in democratic cities such as New York and San Francisco. Even the citizens who have been democrats their whole lives can see that the mass migration to the US is causing problems. These problems will only increase as more and more dangerous drugs, murderers, rapists and other various criminals cross the border to set up shop among us.
A tipping point will be reached and a huge majority of the country will demand something be done. Protests will erupt and some will become violent. Voters will make it loud and clear that something must be done or they will be voting people out. The government will respond by saying that the citizenry has spoken. The border will finally be shut down and the process of deportation will begin. But what they will find is that identifying illegal from legal may be a problem. What is the solution? Well, they may say that we need a national identification card is the way to go. Every legal citizen will be required to obtain their “Federal ID card” . The great thing is that this ID will serve as another form of ID for many transactions. Every card could reveal limitations of a person’s citizenship. For example, they could require the ID for certain purchases such as firearms. A quick scan could reveal if a felon tries to buy a gun. Buying guns and ammo will still be legal, but private transfer between individuals will be outlawed unless facilitated by a licensed retailer. In other words. I could still buy a gun from Joe Blow, but the transaction would have to take place at your local gun store where the IDs of both parties can be scanned into the system. States could start requiring people coming in to the state to show their federal ID to prove they are a citizen. In theory, they are preventing more illegals from entering their state and the citizens of that state will cheer the effort. Random ID checks by the aurthorities will be made legal and the citizenry will gladly comply and applaud the effort since they are eliminating a problem. Anyone not carrying their ID could be legally detained in order to confirm citizenship. Illegals are immediately deported back to their country of origin. The manpower needed to institute the program will be astronomical and jobs are created and the citizenry will cheer the effort since it’s “helping” a faltering economy. If you are caught trying to get a job or apply for federal aid without a federal ID, you will be detained. And the people will be ecstatic because the the government is now reserving those funds for legal residents. You want to buy a home? Maybe a car to drive in the US? Get a loan? Open a business? You guessed it, you will be required to show a legal ID.
Times will start to get hard for many migrants. Some will turn themselves in and will be deported. The majority will turn to crime. And the people will scream that something MUST be done. Crime rates will be so high as to justify the institution of martial law. And things will be so bad that citizens will comply. People will want things to be better and they will start turning anyone suspected as being illegal over to authorities.
As the illegal threat diminishes, people have become accustomed to carrying those wonderful federal IDs. Even better, the government can link those IDs to crimes. You get arrested for battery, it’s noted as a code on your data base. Even traffic tickets can be noted. And then numbers will be assigned to individual things. A point for a traffic ticket, a point for paying bills late, a point for being involved with a biker gang. Those of us who have zero points, will enjoy more freedom of movement between states, we will enjoy a higher consideration for premium employment and maybe more consideration for a post secondary education.
I could go on and on regarding the morphing of this Federal ID s, but I’ll just let your imagination run away with you. I’m sure I’ve left out a lot, but this thought came to last week. It’s been a long time since I’ve read 299 Days, but it seems like there may have been something like this in that book series.
