Trillions of Cicadas Expected to Invade the United States in Rare Event That Last Occurred Under Thomas Jefferson

I am wondering if they are as hungry as grass hoppers and will it make sence for me to even plant a corn field in Region 2 ?

You should be fine! Cicadas drink from trees and do not eat crops. Though smaller trees may need a protective netting. I'll be putting some up if they become an issue here. The only brood near us is 2 counties over and isn't supposed to hatch until 2028. But weirder things have happened, so I'm prepared to protect my small trees.
