We are good here in central Georgia at this point. It looks like all next week will be brutally cold. We have preps ready just in case there is a power outage. So far the forecast does not look as bad as it could be, except for the constant low temperatures.

We are in South Ga. away from the storm but not the cold.  The NG BOL is Winterized but could be used for emergency shelter.  There will be no road travel for 2 days and wide spread power outages.  Those that live in NG Batten down the hatches!

Hi all! Hope everyone is doing well and ready for the show!

If you look at any of the storm maps and see a spot that make you go "Sucks to be that guy" - I'm that guy. They're painting a dire picture for me specifically. 😂

Except it's 10pm on Saturday and not so much as a drop of precip.

But I'm ready. Got my redneck homemade whole house generator tested and running in top shape. It doesn't start itself, but it runs everything I want it to, including the well, hot water, etc. Just can't make a roast while I dry clothes. 😂

Right now I'm sweating, opening doors and windows... My wood stove is way too powerful. But I got it running in advance. It's "too efficient", so it's hard to start. Since I hadn't run it in years, I wanted to be on top of that process.

I'm ready! I'm tempted to say "Bring it!" but I don't want others to suffer.

Hopefully we'll all get through this with a minimum of fuss and bother! I'll check back to see how everyone came through.
A strong conviction that something must be done is the parent of many bad measures.

Had some ice Sunday am when I went down to check on the chickens. Around 2 pm it started raining heavily with blowing winds, miserable! Thank God my power stayed on as of bedtime tonight. I had everything ready to go into disaster mode if needed. Still having rain off and on but it’s too cold to peek out the back door at the thermometer. Dreading this next week. 😢🥶

I hear you on the too hot woodstove.       We've got a small woodstove in the bedroom but we only light it when the temps get below 20 because even with minimal wood it will run you out of the room with heat.     But it's a very pretty woodstove made in the 1980s called an "Elm Stove" so we keep it.

When I bought this house it came with a large woodstove in the living room which would also run you out of the house so I replaced it with a woodstove 1/3 the size which is still a tad too powerful unless it's below 30 outsides.

Not sure if you remember where I live but I'm about an hour further South than you are and we ended up with almost an inch of mostly sleet.

Looks like it is not over.  Looks like there is a follow up or two in the making.  I use Max for my 3 to 5 day forecasts.

8 degrees when I went out to open the coop door. All is well here. Pray for my sister please, no water since Friday and power off since Saturday morning. She is alone in middle Tennessee. 😢🙏

It got very/extremely cold here as well. Ice everywhere. I lost power 4:40 Sunday morning, got it back 11:50 yesterday. I thought that I was setup right with my Mr heaters. It turned out that I got the wrong hoses for two of them.and forgot it.Anyhow I got one heater setup n going plus 22+ candles going. Did ok. Now I need to get the correct hoses more propane. Plus a line for my two burner camp stove. And replace the candles that I used up.

Edit.. I just ordered two hoses.

She is near Columbia Tn. She lives in a very secluded RV park and her son doesn’t check on her as much as he should. 😢
Yes, one thing about not having what you needed in a grid down situation, you get the needed items as soon as you can.

JimLE, you have my sympathies for the power outage. Thanks for posting your experience. I had something similar happen with equipment failure on a camping trip years ago which taught me to take every piece of new gear out and test it at least once before putting it back on the shelf. That way you find the faults before the equipment is needed. It takes a bit more effort up front, but is worth it when you need to use it. Stay warm!

BTW, how much LP did you use during the outage?

I ended up using one 20LB tank for the one heater. In which it barely has any left in. It. Has two heat settings, low and high. I started with it on low, then decided. The heck with this I got two more tanks so I turned it onto high setting.. unfuratntly I don't know what time it was when I first lit it much less when I shut it off. I definitely need to do that the next time I use it, so I'll know approximately to how long one tank will last.

Edit.. I just checked..I'll be getting the lines tomorrow..
